Looks like T.O.'s arbitration hearing is coming up. Even if the Eagles were to lose the hearing (which I don't think they will) I still don't see that T.O. is in a good position here. Even if the arbitrator says that after 4 games the Eagles must take him back, that doesn't mean Coach Reid has to play him does it? If Andy has the backing of the team's owner (and it seems he does), then ultimately it's Andy who decides who takes the field to play offense, does he not? T.O. may end up being the most talented and overpaid benchwarmer in the history of the game

I recently watched something on ESPN where they listed pros & cons with odds even of each and every NFL team that might end up with TO. It came down to Dallas , and San Diego. He's sort of like a "man without a country" at this point. He can be surprisingly understanding sometimes, but I really can't see Bill Parcells putting up with TO. Oh, and I read where OJ is starting to bitch about how unfair the American court system is. This is not a joke!

Ironically, in an afterlife somewhere, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman are bitching about the very same thing Then again, perhaps they're in a place where that would be just so much wasted breath. One can hope

Then again, perhaps they're in a place where that would be just so much wasted breath. One can hope Something I learned from Russell Means in Crawford this summer about the Power of the Matriarch in Native American beliefs is that a women that unselfishly nurtures her children, or other children for that matter (MG), has extra points toward that ticket. Nicole seems to have easily fit that criteria. Goldman was a young man with no doubt a bright future until... OJ is pissed cause the civil courts are mean to him. Boy, we're losing this sports thread fast. ;D Wish I could afford the Rosebowl to see UT finish off USC. (Sorry Scott H.)

Mike,
Sorry to disagree with a senior member, but U of Texas isn't that good. If the OSU tight end didn't drop a pass that hit him in the chest the Ohio State/Texas game would have been over in the third quarter. The Texas defense is terrible. I have have been hoping all year that Texas would lose a game so that OSU would have another shot at them in a bowl game, it wouldn't be close. Penn State would kick their butt too.
Did anyone see my alma mater U. Of Akron win the MAC campionship with a 48 yd TD pass with 10 sec left? Great game.
Peace j

;D Well, they've had a couple off games, but not a problem...that's when Vince Young just has to step up and win the damn thing by himself. And no, this not a one man team.
A "W" is W, unless we're talking about "Dubya".

and how last year a bearish team from the middle of california was outed from a bcs berth by a lower-rated team when last minute secret balloting in texas allowed the very same u of texas of which you are so proud to take its place (which seems to be the norm in the sporting world just as it is in the world of national politics) ... hmmm 41 to 38!!!!! FIXED! Hook-em-Horns

Contgratulations Mike!! Excellant football game and Texas certainly earned the victory!! With a heavy heart I include in this posting my extreme dismay with THE team in my neck-of-the-woods, Virginia Tech. In an earlier posting on this thread I was bragging that they were right in the hunt with Texas and USC and that everyone should keep an eye on Michael Vick's kid brother, Marcus. Marcus was suspended for the '04 - '05 season for off the field antics he got himself into. First he & two of his teammates got into trouble getting three girls under 16 years old drunk at their apartment. That's a misdemeanor, but Marcus also faced a felony charge for taking one of the girls into his bedroom and having sex with her. Somehow he got out of the felony and pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor. Before the school could decide what disciplinary action should be taken, Marcus was caught driving late at night on an Interstate at over 90 MPH and in possession of pot. Not such a horrible crime, but sure indicates the extent of his arrogance by conducting himself like that in spite of pending problems. The school banned him from the team for the '04- '05 season and it was thought that he would never wear a Hokie uniform again. Well it appears to me that the All-American spirit of "win at any cost" moved the school to bring Marcus back for the '05 - '06 season. He played up to the hopes and expectations of the coaches, but his arrogance would pop back up when he didn't play well and the team lost two big games and the team didn't qualify for a BCS game. After those two games he was rude to fans and the media and refused to be interviewed. Then comes the Gator Bowl. Louisville started out playing good and were beating the Hokies. Then, while one of the TV commentators was interviewing Michael Vick on the sidelines, Marcus ran the ball and after he was tackled he stood up over his opponent and then clearly stomped on the side of his opponents knee. Fortunately he didn't seriously injure the Louisville player, but none of the officials saw the incident and Marcus got away with it again!! The head official after being shown a film clip of the violation said "you bet I would have thrown his ass out!!" Well I'm posting this as part of the overall feelings of the Hokie fans.......we don't want any part this kind of attitude and total lack of sportmanship. If it were put up for a referendum Marcus Vick would be thrown off of the team. Maybe he and Terrel Owens can go somewhere and play with eachother!!

I've been a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes for all of my life. I'm still a fan, but now my loyalty lies with the Minnesota Golden Gophers as that is where my eldest son is currently enrolled. A few years ago the Gopher football program was expected to finish in the 9th to 11th place area of the Big 10 (and they did not fail to live up to those expecations ). Along comes Glen Mason, and for 3 years running now the Gophers have gone to the Music City Bowl. Coach Mason has brought them from the bottom of the pile to mid to lower-mid level in the Big 10. He, and apparently the powers that be at the Univ. of MN, seem to believe that 3 straight trips to the Music City Bowl is quite an accomplishment, and that 7th place in the Big 10 is something to really crow about Coach Mason wanted a significant bump in his salary after this most recent season. And, to my surprise at least, he got every penny of it He'll go from making about $1.1 or $1.2 million for the 2005 season to... sit down now... $1.65 million for 2006. With a smile on his face, he proudly lauded the progress of the football program, and no doubt our lofty goals will be set squarely on winning the Music City Bowl next year instead of just playing in it! Who knows, perhaps we can even dream of a 6th place finish in the Big 10! Alright Chad, calm down, let's not try to bite off more than we can chew too soon Hey Mike, great game at the Rose Bowl. I'm happy for Texas... they earned it. Wish we I could have seen it. I had the game on on this little TV we have in the prep room, but as my efforts needed to be focused on embalming a couple of bodies, I was catching only tidbits (score changes and the like) from the sound of Keith Jackson. Oh well, there'll be another championship game next year I may be able to tune into.

I gotta give you credit, I'd have a tough time getting behind a team called the gophers, golden or otherwise. lessee ... "Go Gophers!!" [/color] .... nope, just doesn't stir the blood, somehow ...

Yep...there's punks and there's players. I've been keeping up with him. I wonder if he has a chip on his shoulder maybe because of his brother.

That's okay, Hank ... I have attended two universities whose mascots were (ta-da) -- the Anteaters and the Banana Slugs! Gotta love California.
Mike ... congratulations. I am not convinced that the best team won (meaning that if those two teams played five more times, the odds would be pretty good that they would end up 3-3), but I tip my hat to Texas because they DID win! I told Helen when she came home near the end of the first half that the winner would be the team who had the ball last. If Matt Leinart had fallen two inches farther forward, it would have been USC.
Oh well. I watched the Ohio State/Texas game earlier in the year, and wasn't overly impressed (but then, I am not much of an Ohio State fan, and rated them much weaker than they actually turned out to be) with Vince Young. I saw the highlights all year, and came to recognize that he was pretty damned good. Now ... he's more than good. The sucker is awesome. How tall is he? He looked taller than he is, but he's a big man. And he's fast! And he's strong! I have never seen a player dominate his part of the game in such a way since I used to watch OJ run through the boys he played against.
Anyway, the game was damned good. Damned even (almost every important stat was almost identical), and Texas deserves to be the National Champions!
They played with an attitude, but most of it was well deserved. Only one player (No. 4, Swede) would have fit in with the Virginia Tech gangsters, but I think he is only a freshman. I have to agree with Farmboy about VT ... embarrassing behaviors, and it's just a shame that they won the game. All the commentators and writers and announcers just love Marcus, though (remember, earlier in the year, when they were saying he was better than Michael?) ... and you can bet that whatever punishment comes his way for coming close to destroying the knee (and career) of a probable first round NFL draft pick will be almost nothing. I hope folks at the University really do let their feelings be known. How embarrassing if the All-American starting quarterback is booed by his own student body?
