Hoy Hoy All,
I'm baaaaaaak!
It is great to be back here with you all. Believe it or not my account on this site has been screwed up all of this time and I just got my membership privileges back. I think it might have been a right wing conspiracy to silence my decidedly anti-bush rants. Was I hitting a little too close to the truth boys? There has been a lot that has both scared and enraged me over the last several months and I have had a chance to skim over some of the recent posts on this thread. Boy do I have a lot of pent up rants to vent, believe it or not BillL I have been nearly as p.o.ed at the dems as the reps.
By the way out of consideration for my long exile can I get in on that spelling exemption.
BillL, I might as well return as I have always been; contrary. First, since you believe in the sanctity of "the way it has always been", some of the first issues the federal government was forced to adjudicate were water issues because water systems that don't cross state lines are either rare or non-existent. This seems to demonstrate to me an absolutely indefensible bias against federal authority. We are a country and some issues have to be and should be handled by the federal government.
The reason you shouldn't argue when Jr is accused of something that Clinton "did it too" is not that it is against the rules it is because it is a poor argument. This has become a common argument by both sides of the political aisle and it is stupid for both. It doesn't address the question and it is no excuse. It reminds of a bunch of kids on the playground. "Johnny did it toooo." Who cares. It is still wrong. It is WORSE if this bullshit becomes common practice and deserves more attention not less. The scariest thing I heard anyone say during the Victoria Plame debacle was when someone said it was no big deal because this type of character assassination was common practice. Well if it is, ever is everyone should go to jail. Also, the "he did it too" argument leaves no room for "matters of degree". There is very little black and white in this world and this argument leaves no room for gray. Everybody lies to their wife, I tell mine those pants don't make her butt look fat, you tell your's that you didn't sleep with her best friend----NOT the same thing. ;D
One of the things that I have been noticing more and more lately (and of course is p.o.ing me more and more)
is the: repeat the lie until it is true gambit. Example, it wasn't Bush's fault that he believed intelligence that said that Iraq had WMD's because all major intelligence agencies believed the same thing. This is so untrue that if it weren't so serious and said such bad things about the intelligence of the American public, it would be funny. The Mossad said that Iraq had no WMD's before the invasion and had furious arguments with Jr about it. The UN weapons inspectors said he had none. Our own CIA and serious doubts about WMD's in Iraq. But Jr presented it as accepted fact. He knew better. You also have to remember that the truth has a time element. Just because something is true in 1992 or 1998 doesn't mean that it is true now. As a matter of fact that might prove the opposite of what you are trying to prove. We know that Iraq had WMD's in the past we now know that he didn't have them in 2002. You can't prove that they were a threat in 2002 because it was a fact in the past. Not only that, it supports the argument that the sanctions and inspections were WORKING. Truth; funny of bird ain't it.
The supreme court. Jr has a mandate to appoint a conservative justice because the majority told him too. This is exactly opposite to the intent of the Constitution. Strict constructionist huh. The Constitution was very clear that one branch of the government should not be beholden to the majority, or any voters. The court is supposed to protect the rights of the minority (as small as 1 person) from the government (the majority). When people say that the court should rule for a position because it is the will of the majority they have no understanding of the function of the court in our system of government.
Scariest thing from Hurricane Katrina. Bush's comment that he couldn't understand why the people didn't get in their cars and leave when they were warned. We have a president that is so out of touch with our country that he doesn't understand that there are people too poor to have cars or if they do they might not have the money to buy gas.
The facts about our invasion of Iraq support one of two conclusions. Either this administration is as dumb as a bag of hammers and they should resign because they should realize that they are not competent to run the country. Or that this administration deliberately lied to us (at a cost of 2000+ American children)and they should be impeached and tried as traitors. I honestly don't know which it was but we NEED to find out which is true. I find it irritating when Bush prefaces his arguments with- we all had the same intelligence. That isn't the answer that's the question idiot. Dumb like a fox, I hope he isn't right about the gullibility of the American people.
Bush gave a speech the other day. He said a dictator or tyrant kills innocent people, attacks the rights of the people, invades countries that were no threat to them, stockpiles WMD's, condones torture, and several other factors. Call me crazy but I thought he was describing himself.
Back five minutes and already running off at the mouth. Feels good to be back among the living. I hope I don't get blocked from all you fine people again. I hope this finds everyone in a good place.
Peace
