Ralph Reed, former leader of the National Christian Coalition resigned that position to "jump on the power money wagon!" He has since been a high priced communications consultant, a top campaign advisor to Bush, Chairman of Georgia's Republican Party, and now a candidate for Georgia's Lieutenent Govenor. OK...that's all fair game and some pretty good jobs, but dig this: Federal investigations of Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a close ally of House Majority Leader TOM DELAY, have revealed that Abramoff paid $4 Million to Reeds consulting firm to organize Christian opposition to American Indian casinos in Texas and Louisiana... from money that came from other American Indians with rival casinos in Oklahoma and elsewhere. Pretty cheesy. These "Christians" speak with "forked tongues" for money!!! Abramoff is now a top lobbyist for more gambling in Texas assisted heavily by who else...Tom Delay and (so-called) Gov. Rick Perry. From what I've seen, it wouldn't be too hard to get their personal army of "christians" to decide that "gambling might be good for Texas after all". It just depends on who's getting paid what!

Speaking of politics, anyone ever read political blogs ? Yeah, I know they are like watching paint dry, but when you're like me, held captive at a desk with a little time on your hands, they can become a disease. I read the big ones. I'm a Dem, but a lot of times, some of the sane conservatives are kinda cool, like Glenn Reynolds and Andrew Sullivan. And then you have Wonkette ! Check that one out for the good stuff in DC for sex, lies, and video tape at www.wonkette.com. Anyone wanna start a Feat blog ? As if...the subject has not already been discussed..but ya might want to ask the members of the band to be the editors and contributors. (hey, it doesn't have to be political)... ...hey..someone give'em a knudge... real time Feat on the road..too cool. oxo.

Qualification to the prev on bloggers : I forget about views on the war by some conservatives. I like to see what the other side has to say. As a Dem, I already know the party line. Ya don't learn anything by listening to like-minded people sometimes as much as listening to the "other side". I will say this : religious theocracy has no place on the Hill. Someone wake me up and say it ain't so ! Rick Santorum, Tom DeLay, and Bill Frist WHO ? Forget about the White House. Look at the morons in our legislature. (payne/barrere/clayton/murphy/gradney/hayward/tackett in 2008.. for posts still to be determined)

I'm tired of the relative niceties that have passed for discussion on this thread for the past few days ... so brace yourselves; I want to say something that might make a few people sit up and say "what"? April 28th FeatPolAnimalwrote: Actually, I agree with the things Scott Hays writes - mmm about 95% of the time. And likely as not, I could be wrong the other 5%. I also learn one helluva a lot from him. But Scott has been silent for about four weeks now (previously unheard of on this particular thread). So Scott, consider this the official bat signal shining brightly in the night sky. If Gotham doesn't need you, then Featdom certainly does. You too BillL. I'm still reading, and learning from, Jashley's and Mike's posts, as well as all the others, but man do I miss hearing from you two . [shadow=red,left,300]Don't make me put your faces on some milk cartons![/shadow] ;D As Pink Floyd so succinctly put it... Hello, Hello, is there anybody in there? Just smile if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home? Okay - Nuff said, chadgumbo By the way, has anybody noticed that Mike is a full-fledged feat four star general now? We got some catchin' up to do boys and girls

I was watching C-SPAN earlier tonight and our Democratic senators are telling us that the budget deficit will be $600 billion dollars per year for the next 5 years. Seem like a lot? Put another way - that's 1.64 billion dollars per day, everyday for the next 1,826 consecutive days. And it's not dollars spent we're talking about, it's dollars spent above and beyond what we can afford to spend. Growing up I'd always been told it was the Democrats who couldn't spend tax dollars fast enough. I'd always been told that the Republicans wanted less government. How does spending 1.64 billion in deficit dollars each and every day equate to less government? How is that in any way conservative? -chadgumbo

Liberal = To CONSERVE economy and be accountable to support and maintain the future of the majority.

Hoy Hoy All I have noticed that Mike is again our better. All hail Mike . I was beginning to wonder where everyone was and I will add my voice to the chorus of come back Scott and BillL, we miss you. Welcome FeatPoll we needed new meat to abuse . Seriously welcome to the forum it's good to have another point of view. We all kind of treat this as a blog as we express our views in whatever (polite) way that we choose, the only problem is we all (especially me) have a tendency to be too "wordy" for anyone anywhere else to have the patience to read our views (nonsense?). Did anyone hear that lying shameless idiot's (also known as Jr.) speech last night. When he started to bemoan the fact that we have no coherent energy policy I almost threw up. Didn't anyone tell that uneducated meatball that Jimmy Carter started and FUNDED an alternative energy policy 30+ years ago. The only problem was when the republican god Reagan took over he cancelled the program. If that idiot, reborn as the second coming, hadn't gutted Pres Carter's program we would probably be well on our way to energy independence by now. To get off the negative, if we had continued this program and we were now free of or nearly free of our dependence on foriegn AND domestic oil can you imagine what great shape our economy (not to mention our enviroment) would be in now. To continue with Jimmy for awhile. He (and his sec of state Brezinski, I know there are a couple more vowels and z's in there) were the ones who engineered the fall of the USSR by tricking them into a hopeless invasion of Afganistan by backing the Taliban and Al Quida. The problems came about because Reagan and Bush I kept funding Osama and the Taliban long after the USSR went home. Now Reagan and the Republicans want to take credit, read your history, don't let them get away with this bull. By the way, do you think there are any lesson that this country could learn from the fact that the USSR spent themselves out of existence by spending too much on defense (or should I say offense)? The war in Iraq is now over $300 billion dollars after Jr took great offense when his advisors told him that the war would cost at least $200 billion. He said $100 billion and oil revenes would cover that. Oh boy, a free war! What an idiot. JR. has finally tried to explain his social security plan. Has anyone explained to him that his privatization plan does not address the problem? Privatization will not address the shortfall in funds it will make it worse. Not to mention that most estimates place the "changeover" costs at $2 Trillion, Jr says $1 Trillion but no one with any sense believes him (see above). This crap is nothing but another great swindle by the investment industry. If private investment is such a great idea why don't we lift the restrictions on the SS administration itself to put SS funds into the market? They could do it without paying huge commisions to brokers (don't forget ALL private investment starts out behind because of commissions). Or is the idea really to create huge commision windfalls to the major brokerage houses? I'll let you decide. What if the employees at Enron would have put not only their retirement accounts (which SS is not) but also their SS account in the "rock solid" Enron Corp.? (I am reading a book about Enron called "Conspiracy of Fools", highly recommended.) Would these people now be exploding the welfare rolls? By the very nature of the investment market some are going to win and some are going to lose? What are we going to do with the losers? When this huge windfall to the investment market hits we will see an enormous artificial spike in stock and mutual fund markets, which is the enviroment that most of our investing will take place in. Then; can you spell bubble bursting? It will make the tech. bubble look insignifigant. So Jr doesn't address the core problem and what he does propose will make a bad problem worse. Sounds like when he was running his oil exploration companies (and getting bailed out by Saudi's) or when he gave unfair gigantic tax cuts to the rich to deal with the recession (5 years on and the stock market is going to break 10,000, the wrong way, and our dollars are still falling like a stone). This idiot knows as much about economics as I know about rocket science. Jimmy Carter was the greates president in our lifetime. He asked the American public to make the sacrifices neccessary to ensure our future and he got booted out of office and rediculed for it, but it was the right thing do then and it is even more important now. Don't fall for the Republican you can have your cake and eat it too promises, they don't work and my children and yours are going to pay the price. I know my nomination of Jimmy is not going to get many amens but Jimmy asked Chou En Lai what he thought of the French Revolution when they were in Paris in the 70's. Chou's repose, "It's too soon to tell." Time will tell who was good for this country and who was a scum sucking dog. In answer to your who's the Republican question. I was brought up a Repubulican and these people running around calling themeselves Republicans make me sick. "Republicans" have built an $8 Trillion deficit (do these numbers mean anything anymore?), have attacked the constitution (the Patriot Act and the attack on the separation of powers, not to mention the courts, the branch that protects our rights, everybody say King Jr.), are allowing big business to steal the country with both hands, and are growing the federal government at an unprecedented rate. Railing against those "queer fellas" getting married and bombing the crap out of a country that was no threat and had never attacked us doesn't make you a Republican or a conservative. Mike and everyone, Check out www.DCCC.org for the latest on the fall of DeLay and Jr's popularity. You can have them notifiy you of the latest scoop by hitting one little button. Again, all hail Mike . So much for being too polite , but Jr pisses me off when he thinks the American public is stupid enough to swallow his nonsense. If anyone made it to the end of this rant I salute you and apoligize. I was so excited when I opened my e-mail and saw that y'all had posted I couldn't contain myself. Peace j

I love Bonnie Bramlett!!! I'll probabley get barred from the threads for this but..I remember back in the '70s I think, Bonnie and Elvis Costello were on a talk show together. I think it was Dick Cavett. She had recentley become a proud US citizen, and Costello being young and rebellious, and a little immature was really talking some crap about the USA. After telling him to shut up a couple of times, Bonnie stood up and "punched his lights out"! I laughed til I cried. I'm not an Elvis fan, but I think he has smoothed out and grown up a lot. Bonnie helped him with the latter. ;D Did you get her on the phone yet?

Hoy Hoy All I read the other day that another presidential commission analyzed the money that the government has already committed to spend over the next twenty years will create a $62 Trillion shortfall (read additional deficit). Jr promptly buried the report and started talking about social security and those damn queer fellas wantin' to get married . I keep saying that these numbers are getting so big that we can't conceptualize them so somehow we put them out of our conciousness. We start talking in TRILLIONS and our brains just shut down. WAKE UP, WAKE UP . Another sad case for the E man and I do mean Costello. In Columbus, Ohio after a show and to give him something of an out, reportedly very drunk, Elvis said that Ray Charles was an nothing but an ignorant N word (won't use it, don't like it). Bonnie on that occasion reportedly knocked the crap out of him again. She must have enjoyed kicking the stuffing out of Elvis on that tour. When you get beat up by a girl you not only have to deal with the pain you have to deal with the embarrassment . Elvis has repeatedly apoligized since (and I recently read an article where he met Ray right before he died and was hoping that Ray had forgiven him) and I think it's time to let him off the hook. But it is a good example of why if you get a little bit of fame you better check your ego or you might do something that will take you a long time to get forgiven for. I am a fan of Elvis' music but I ain't a fan of this kind of star strutin'. I have met a few "stars" and the ones who have really made it are usually very nice and the ones who are on the edge are the ones who do the big ego thing. Which brings us to Jr. I know this is going to be a shock after some of the posts I have put on this thread. But I don't hate him. I think he might be a good guy to have a beer or smoke a big fatty with. But I HATE what he is doing to this country (and I could do without the smirk). Here in Ohio we have been very lucky that when the first Gov Taft (the current gov. grandpa) instituted the state income tax 5% was GARANTEED to fund the libraries. As a result the state of Ohio has the best libraries in the nation and it has been a very very valuable resource and point of pride for our state. In 2000 the current Gov Taft took back the garanteed sales tax money and now wants to cut library funding again. Don't these idiots get it. The best return we get on our tax dollars is education. The best source of revenue in the world is IDEAS. I can illustrate. The city of Akron has not made a tire since 1972 (other than experimental ones). However, the tire cos. had the foresight to fund a Dr. of polymer chemistry at the U of Akron. Because of this Akron has been able to completely transform its economy from a manufaturing base to research and development. Akron, Oh has more billion dollar corporation than any city of its size in the world. Now these idiots in Washington, and California (remember Scott saying that the libarary in Salinas might have to close) and Ohio and all over the country are trying to gut our educational system. It makes me wonder why. Are they that stupid? Is it worth it to them to line the pockets of their powerful buddies at the expense of our future? I know some of you think I'm some kind of bleeding heart but I'm not. I just believe in what WORKS. And that is not what our current crop of politiclians is telling us it is. They need to pick up a history book and learn the lesson it can teach. Peace j
