As started on HoyHoy and moved here...
From a digester perspective, I offer the following:

(Eric) That was my point exactly, if someone doesn't want to read something, if
they are not interested, or they think it's a waste of their time they are
free to do exactly that.... SCROLL....
(me) For a digester who actually reads on-line that's great, but for those of us who print out the digest, this can amount to pages and pages wasted. Personally, if I had the time to delete certain posts (scroll equivalent) before I printed them, I'd probably have the time to read them in the first place, but I don't have that luxury. Aside from my individual case, I think you catch my drift. While we all can skip over any topic, lengthy post or individual we chose to, the fact still remains that a lot of time, bandwidth and paper are involved.
If I may be so bold as to refer what I believe rbiii eluded to in his thesis on exponentiality, some digest etiquette seems in order. Etiquette, yes. Rules, certainly not, there are no rules on HoyHoy; but constructive suggestion, maybe seeing something from someone else's shoes - in a way that hadn't occurred to the sender. Perhaps a little digest courtesy would be something for some folks to consider. How many of you fondly remember the number of times Paco got chastised for not "cutting and pasting" in his early days? Look how far he's progressed, now often combining several threads into one big seagull post (sorry Paco, couldn't resist ;-)
Several posts by the same person, streamers who reply back and forth with short responses and recopy the original posts, both result in pages of headers and footers with very little new text, a disappointment to a reader expecting a thick digest full of actual banter. Another result, some days the list resembles a chat room more than a listserv. Your mileage may vary, but I'm sensing that this is the issue some folks are having with "top posters" lately.
Let me clarify, I LOVE the digest. I look forward to it daily and am disappointed when a day goes by without one. Without folks posting their thoughts it would not have morphed into the crazy, addicting animal that it is. However, for the sake of conservancy, I don't think it's too much to ask a person to put multiple replies together into fewer posts. Off-topics, I love them, this would be a boring place if all we chatted about were setlists from the hundred or so shows the band puts on each year (and we know how it can get when they're off the road for a while ;-). What's great about the HoyHoy list is that when they're not touring we still find a sense of community and are free to share other music interests, personal and family situations and whatever crosses our minds. I hope that never changes.
Roll 'um easy,
Cherri
