Have to nominate WXPN in Philly...far cooler than just a college radio format.. they feature World Cafe w/David Dye and they often play older Feat (Tripe Face into Cold 3x) Time Loves A Hero, Two Trains, Fool Yourself, Day at The Dog Races,Willin' etc. and now In a Town and Walkin' off Kickin It...Programmer Helen Light is a longtime Feat fan. She featured WFC remastered/ one side, as the quintessential American Band Live Recording last July 4th. Cajun Girl

New nomination from me....we just got XM radio last week - thanks to Stevie Sea for the impetus! They play a lot of FEAT, talk a little about FEAT, and have a live FEAT broadcast from in-studio that they play on XM Live and on the XM Cafe, so along with WXPN, WRNR and all the other great nominees...I nominate XM Radio - someday we'll all have it (or Sirius, or both)
cheers, bfb

We started this thread talking about radio stations, venues, promoters, etc.... I just wanted to pass along some news regarding local radio station WHFS (orig.102.3 fm, now 99.1fm) in Washington, DC/Suburban Maryland. 'HFS is where I first heard Little Feat on the radio! Lowell did stuff on-air here with Linda Rondstadt & John Starling & others "back in the days" Damian Einstein (and yes, Cerphe-before going corporate) were DJ's and they played whatever they wanted to! Einstein family sold to corporate America about 10 years ago? Has been progressive/alternative format (emphasis on format) since.....until yesterday... WHFS is now Latino Pop station! This is a real sign 'o the times! damn glad i have XM, even if i find their stations a bit "over-formatted", at least i find stuff i like and some new stuff to chew into on occassion.
a sad day for DC radion (unless you like Latino Pop!) bob

Sorry to hear this Bob!!
This happened to KLOL here about a month ago- all of the sudden one day the former album rock station of the 70's went Latino- guess thats the marketing direction today.
KLOL was a great station- I had lost interest in them about the last 10-15 years as they appealed to the younger set.

My nomination for any kind of fan-base award to a feat-friendly station still goes to KPIG (Watsonville, CA ... "Freedom", CA as they say on air). KPIG remains a deejay-run, not-formatted station ... but the owners are trying to stealthily put in changes that would make a sudden transition to Latin-pop (or the equivalent) pretty easy. They actually tried about three years ago, but the outcry from loyal (rabid) listeners was overwhelming, and they backed off. But ... the new playback machine has made the very useful archive of playlists obsolete, and I can see the deejays, who now struggle to deal with "Hal junior", being replaced by a single programmer at the drop of a hat.
This thread, which was going so hot and heavy last May, seems to have pretty much died a death caused by inattention. I do not have the time now to do anything about resurrecting it. If someone else wants to take the bull by the horn, I will be happy to help out.

If someone else wants to take the bull by the horn, I will be happy to help out. If any of you read HoyHoy, the band's mailing list, mention was made today on how unimspiring the conversations and activity has been. Sharing this thread with those folks might get more activitly going. Believe it or not, both audiences are different. and most don't participate in both conversations. I still see this as a worthy project and perfect for grassrroots involvement. We get a couple of HUNDRED folks lkicking this idea around and something is bound to happen...

Thanks, Rick ... I am not sure what the backflipper was getting at in his post, but I went ahead and posted something about this discussion at hoyhoy. It is sort of buried at the bottom my response to some other things, so I will repost my message on Saturday if no one comments.

I realize not everyone will be there, but we may have a pretty good size group of fans at the grassroots meeting in Jamaica. Maybe that would be a good place to discuss this idea and get something going with it, if the interest is there.

for what it's worth, I posted this on the HoyHoy digest as well, but I think it bears repeating here for those who don't subscribe to the digest. it was in response to a post that stated "Finally, and this may go without saying, but it seems important that at some point permission from the band seems essential. "
I then posted:
more important than that, even, would seem to be management's involvement. if you're considering taking this beyond a one-off, paper citation 3rd grade kinda recognition and establishing it as something that might be an annual thing with either a symbolic award (sailin' shoe award was mentioned) or something more real (next year in Jamaica?) then you'll *have* to get DeepSouth and the band involved from the very beginning ... for one there's $$$ involved (unless some kind hearted and deep pocketed fan is coughing up) and for another you can't do anything in the band's name without first getting the band's permission; this mistake has been made before, and the best of intentions don't make up for ill considered actions.

scott, rick, h(), and everyone else interested... i think scott's original couple of posts - particularly the one where he outlines the criteria for a radio station to be eligible - forms the basis for us to go ahead and set up a site for featfans to nominate/re-nominate and vote for some winners. i think it's time we put something out there and see if it flys. last time around, we got folks here excited...and as things generally happen, the award idea withered.
Scott - i put it to you to resurrect the award idea with the criteria you described to the grassroots group that meets in jamaica. i will gladly post to the HHD and to the Jamaica going thread here the details to be discussed. Management should be informed if we decide to do something - see Rick & Hank's Caveats! Award will not be music...could be anything - ideas so far: Sailin' Shoe Statuette (a "Featie") Posters, Shirts, LF swag from online store (paid for by volunteer contributions- i volunteer to collect and buy) Giveaway coupons for listeners to get Sampler CD's (burned by featfans for featfans/potential featfans) a Special T-shirt run - radio station logo + feat logo??? Other ideas???
This is a win-win award if we do it right!! could be the beginning of an annual event and expanded to venues/festivals if it is successful and well received. but let's start with picking a station (or two or three) and seeing if we can make this awkward idea fly!!!

Thanks, Bob ... you make me "flip" I will collect all input from this board and from hoyhoy before I leave for work next Monday ... when I leave work on Monday, I am taking a shuttle to San Jose International for the first leg of our trek to Jamaica (it takes a "long" time from California). I think, for now, it is best to put this idea on hold. No sense making any more decisions until someone talks about it to people who matter. While I think we all matter, there are some who matter a little more than I. I will bring this idea to the Grassroots meeting, and then will make sure that someone speaks to members of the band and to Deep South. I think we will be able to work out the logistics of discussing and deciding without too much trouble. This can work.
