<snip, snip> The Feat fan in prison I'm referring to happens to be an outstanding artist. For the last two years he has donated custom made WDBX art work for us to auction. He says that he is our "captive" audience and that his art is a small thank you for getting to hear Little Feat everyday. Often I'll throw in a weekly 30 minute live jam dedicated to him. Thanks for the warm welcome! ~ Kevin Hey Kevin, I tend to have a soft spot for folks doing time. If you can hook me up with this guy's snail mail addy I'm sure that a few of the Feat fans would send him a correspondence or 2. I know I will. If he has any Feat related artwork we can get it posted somewhere on the Community pages of the website. See what he has or could produce and I'll be glad to hook him up. Rick

Gumbo,
Thanks for the info, and again welcome to the forum.
I hope you, and everyone else, get a chance to visit the freepress site listed above. This site was instrumental in getting the new TV regulations defeated and certainly were a factor in Michael Powell's recent resignation. They do have a mailing list on their site that will keep you undated on anything new. You may also want to check the PBS website (I think its an org, and is posted I think in politics) they had a special a few months back and had a web page and links connected to it. In the special one of the things that caught my attention was they mentioned my hometown, Mansfield, Ohio, and they said that of the 22 radio station that served (?) our town 17 of them were owned by clear channell. I hate to sound like broken record but when one mega corporation controlls the amount of information desimination that clear channell and a few others do; this is a very serious threat to our country and I would urge all of the very intelligent, thoughtfull, and patriotic people on this site to get involved in this issue.
Support independent radio.
Peace j

Here's his address:
Aaron Smith 47805-198 Federal Prison Camp Box 1000 Marion IL 62959
He'll love hearing from ya'll! I asked him about artwork. I know he'll be excited to hear that his artwork may get posted, so I'm sure he'll come up with some way of getting it to you. I'll help him out with that. Thanks again!
jashley: Once again, I gotta agree with you about corporate radio. I believe Clear Channel owns every radio station in southern Illinois, except ours, and they never will. Since the beginning we've been a great source of alternate news. We started out broadcasting Free Speech Radio News. Now we broadcast Democracy Now. Thank good ness for Amy Goodman.

Back to Sam Clayton, his studio lead vocal works are as follows:
Feel The Groove - the last track on Down On The Farm (1979)
The Ingenue - a truly underrated Little Feat classic. Mainly sung by Paul but Sam sings the middle eight and does a really cool scat vocal. If you want to Sam scatting it like nobody's business, get Ripe Tomatos and listen to the acoustic version of Ingenue at the start of Disc 2.
Romance Without Finance - a classic duet with Shaun Murphy on Ain't Had Enough Fun (1995)
That's A Pretty Good Love - a cover version included as an extra track on some countries editions of Ain't Had Enough Fun. Another duet with Shaun.
I like Sam. I hope he takes time out from breeding his terrapins to do a solo album in the not too distant...

Gumbo,
Just to second the motion about freeing your friend's art. We're always looking for great ways to dress up our jewel cases and some great art from another fan would be just the ticket. A nice Feat cover or two would make my day.

Hi Dave! Ya know, I've always wondered what he's in for also, but I figure if he wanted me to know he'd tell me. I know it has to be for a non-violent crime, or he wouldn't be in the work camp, so perhaps it is Feat-related?! I wrote him a letter a few days ago and filled him in on this message board and how ya'll want to see his art. I know that'll put a big wide grin on his face. Thanks for the info on Sam, I'll add it to my list. Take care!

I agree with everyone on the vocal abilities of this great group. I also would love to hear Sam sing more, give Paul a rest - it's got to be tough on his voice with all of the singing he does. I may be committing heresy by saying this, but I would love to hear Sam sing "Fat Man". I love the way they play this now, instrumentally, tremendous power and energy. I want to say I LOVE Paul's voice, but I think Sam would give an additional edge to the song. I think part of Lowell's vocal magic was sounding so intense with his upper range, it is what gave Fat Man the edge in the early recordings. I think if Sam sang the first verse in the register Paul uses now, it would add that edge, since it is higher in Sam's vocal range relative to Paul's. I love what Shaun does with her verse, she absolutely kills. Well, if heresy it is, hopefully it will have mellowed by the time we get back to Negril. And if it is heresy, I'll buy you Red Stripe as part of my penance.

Gumbo, I wrote Aaron Smith at Camp Fed and he's responded. He sure was glad to get the mail. He sent along 3 photocopies of some B&W ink drawings that I'll get scanned in and post here on the board. 2 of them were work he did for your station.
Great Stuff! I encourage anyone else to go ahead and send him a letter. The addy is:
Aaron Smith 47805-198 Federal Prison Camp Box 1000 Marion IL 62959
He'd love hearing from you. I'm gonna send him copies of some of the CD covers other fans have done and the new Smooth Sailin' poster too.
He's looking forward to starting on some pieces. Thanks for the heads up on Aaron.
Regards, Rick

Rick, thank you so much! I know it means a lot to Aaron. He's been a Feat fan for a long time and I know he'd be honored to have his art posted here. A big thanks to anyone who takes time to write Aaron. The Feats community has gotta be one of the best out there.
Peace, Kevin
