Hi All
As previously advised by Rick Moore, Katrina has dealt a significant blow to road crew member and New Orleans resident Rocky who earned 25% of his income from local gigs in the New Orleans area which he has obviously lost along with his residence for now. Rick has started a contributions fund and some of you have already sent money to that fund.
I want to raise more money for Rocky and/or Katrina victims generally. As some of you know I have been working on the organisation of the 3rd featfan Tribute disc for some time now. It was nearly out in May before a computer crash caused me to lose the entire edited production and all the artwork which meant starting the production process from scratch. But these things happen for a reason...
So here's the deal. You, the loyal and generous Featfans, are going to make a $15 donation per disc which you can specify should either go to Rocky or to the Red Cross. In return you'll get the best Tribute disc so far. With top drawer performances and uniformly high production values the disc covers a wide range of material from covers of early demo Rocking Shoes through to the Telephone Song jamming of Paco and Saul's BOP band. There are songs from every era of the band with interpretations spanning the divide from faithful reproduction to eccentric reinvention (wait til you hear Dixie Chicken!). Regular readers will recognise names like Andy Wild, Armond Neal, Larry and Deb Lister, Klaus Caprani and Laila K Jenson and Martin Hurdemann. The backbone of the disc comes from the Rock & Roll Doctors whose 3 faithful readings of classic tracks Skin It Back, Old Folks Boogie and Two Trains ensure clear points of reference to draw the listener in.
And perhaps the most exciting news is that, by arrangement and agreement with Paul Barrere, the disc contains an unreleased Little Feat live track. Now I know live Feat shows these days are easy to come by and so there's nothing that unusual about a live Feat track. But this is no ordinary track- it is a part acapella part acoustic soundboard version of Teenage Nervous Breakdown from the early 90s with Craig, Paul and Sam singing up a storm- if you like it is Little Feat covering themselves. I won't lie to you, if you were on this list 5 years ago and got hold of the compilation I made called Shake Mambo & Roll, you already own this track. Otherwise, you don't and will be unlikely to hear it anywhere else.
Now I don't care if you want to get the disc for the Feat track or because you are interested in hearing a bunch of very talented musicians (and me) interpret and perform versions of songs you love. Mostly I want you to help raise money for Rocky, even if you use the disc as a beer coaster!!
I should clarify that Mac Davis will be helping me out on this project to the extent that if you are in the US, you will be mailing your check or cash to him but receiving your disc from me. This system of checks and balances will ensure that every single cent you send will go to charity. I am donating all the discs, cases, ink, photo quality cover paper, packaging and postage. Mac is handling the money (save if you are based outside the US). All we need you to do is give generously (at least $15) so we can all help Mr Tornabene and his family and/or the Red Cross.
Here's what you gotta do. Write to me at guy.vickers@gconnect.com with an e-mail headed Tribute and I'll tell you where to send your money. Then sit back and wait for your disc. Then write a review here on Hoyhoy to encourage any stragglers to jump on this wagon.
My inbox is waiting...
