Communications has been a real fiasco through this whole ordeal. I mean for Christ sake, we're in daily communication with a remote control car (2 of them) on Mars and at this point if you need to get a hold of a friend or relative in the affected areas, you're screwed.
boingboing.net has been having some excellent coverage of what's going on away from the eye of the talking heads and camera crews.
