Hoy Hoy all! Little Feat crossed Iowa on Interstate 80 on Saturday, arriving in Davenport for the River Roots Festival. LF took the stage a little before 10 PM and the performance was videotaped for a PBS airing at presumably a later date.
For those of you who like to track LF set lists, here goes... bear in mind this is from memory and not a notepad
1.) All That You Dream
2.) Spanish Moon
3.) Rock and Roll Every Night (my favorite track from "Ain't Had Enough Fun)
4.) Dixie Chicken
- segue into "Tennessee Jed"
- comes around back to DC
- segue into very brief guitar tease of "Telephone Tells Me 2 Do"
- comes around to DC again with maybe one more segue before a wrap of Chicken
5.) Tripe Face Boogie
6.) Willin'
NOTE - That was the order up to that point... the rest of the way were the following, but perhaps not in this order
> Don't Bogart that Joint
> This Land is Your Land
> Down on the Farm (this was kind of like MTV Unplugged in reverse, as they did this one with electric guitars in both Paul's and Fred's more than capable hands)
>It Takes a Train (the definitive Shaun Murphy blues piece... although I'd be willing to entertain anyone who would like to make a case for "Another Man's Place") Also, while I don't believe the band was aware of it, a freight train was slowly passing by just 40 yards to Shaun's left as she was singing this song. I hope the TV crew noticed.
> Gringo
> Fatman in the Bathtub (somewhere Get Up Stand Up was segued into one of the songs and I think it may have been with Fatman)
> encore -- was it Oh Atlanta? (I got majorly distracted on this one, and anybody that might care to wonder why I was distracted is going to have to do just that - wonder)
It was perhaps the finest performance I have ever seen by the band, about 2 hours in length. Hopefully, Feat fans everywhere will get to see it on PBS - watch for it.
After the show things only got better. While my pictures this year weren't even close to the quality of the photos I took last year at the Minnesota State Fair, I managed to get a few photos worth showing. I also had the great fortune of finding myself backstage and had the privilege of meeting a few members of the band. After another long day on the road, and a performance that lasted until nearly midnight, those that were milling about had a way of making everyone feel welcome and made time for as many questions and photo requests as they could. Thank you!
Another person that I had the very good fortune of meeting was LF message board regular contributor - Shred. When I thought I had recognized him and introduced myself, he was just as genuinely pleased to meet me as I was to meet him. A very fun and interesting man to talk to. And to mark the occasion of our chance meeting, here's that photo I promised (see "2 the Band - Paul")
Well, I was 250 miles from home and it was now 12:45 AM. But I wanted to get what little sleep as I might in my own bed. So I sped back to Rochester, Minn. and I'm happy to see that Shred made it back to California safely as well.
Keepin' my fingers crossed to see the Feat in '06
