HoyHoy one and all,
By now many of you are aware that Denny has finally succumbed to the pressure, and agreed to allow us to purchase some new merch display items. And it only took us a year or so to convince him! A huge thanks goes out to Bill Adams from Columbia, who was instrumental in getting the backdrop display to Denny and the band. This new backdrop & lights were initiated in Steelville, MO at "Camp Wildwood". We do not yet have any photos of the new display. We couldn't get any good shots in Steelville because of space constraints. Diane tells us that it worked fabulously at the Cubby Bear show in Chicago. We did not use the backdrop in Davenport, since the venue provided the merch tent and workers. As soon as we get all the details worked out, perhaps someone with a camera (hint, hint - Hank) could take a great photo or two. If someone would happen to get a good shot or two, please contact us. We plan to enlarge the photo(s), laminate them, and include them with all the merch signage, for future reference by POC's and helpers. This should really help Denny a bunch at shows.
Basically the backdrop consists of two tripod stands (the kind used for lighting by small bands). One tripod goes on each side, with a 10 foot truss connecting the two. This can be raised to most any height needed, up to almost 10 foot. Each tripod also has a T-bar at the top. The large 2005 tour banner, and all the shirts, cap, etc. hang comfortably from the truss and T-bars. One light is clamped on the outer edge of each T-bar providing light for both the hanging merch and table, as needed. The tripod stands, T-bars, and truss all fit nicely into a very heavy-duty padded carry bag, which is less than 5 foot long. The whole assembly, including the bag, only weighs approx. 35 pounds. The two lights, extension cords, and adapter fit into a separate small padded carrying case.
We have also made brand new signage with larger and bolder price information. In addition, each CD and DVD now has a small paragraph describing the CD/DVD, as well as the track list, in large print on the sign itself (for us old folks who need reading glasses). This is a BIG help, especially for venues where they do not allow any Feat Folks behind the merch table. There is one laminated sign card for each CD to be placed upon the table. Also, there are two ring-bound flip booklets including all the info. for the CD's and DVD's (just like the signs) to be placed at either end of the merch table. Folks can simply flip through the booklet, and decide which CD's they would like to purchase.
Our next goal is to complete a roll-out table top display, completely laminated, which Denny and helpers can simply roll out and secure onto the table top, eliminating the need for individual signs for each table-top item. It can then easily be rolled up,stored, and placed on the truck for transport. One step at a time.......... ;D
