FEATS ON MAUI 3/4/05 Maui was treated to "An Evening With" (just - no opening act, why distract) Little Feat....they did a 90 minute set + encore - that Maui resident, Doobie Bro Pat Simmonds sat-in with the band...3 Strats going at once.....good 'ol Feat gig! What can I say.... TEXTTEXTSet List for Maui, HI on 3.5.05 Marginal Creatures One Clear Moment Just Another Sunday (Denny Jones personal LF favorite tune) Down on the Farm Mercenary Territory (Bubba's personal favorite LF song that Shaun let it wail and was high 5'ing the dancers up front while she sang) Sailin' Shoes Heaven Forsaken Rag Mama Rag Blues Don't Tell It All Old Folks Boogie On Your Way Down Let It Roll + Pat Simmonds of the Dobbie Brothers on Stratocaster guitar 2 hours and 12 songs gave all the band members a chance to shine. Billy was pretty sick but played some great solo's for being ill....Ritchie was Ritchie...the World's Greatest Unhearlded Drummer. Feat buddies, Mauian's Bobalou and Jerry made sure Ritchie got a good DW rent-a-kit and with all his cymbals, to make sure the Iowa R'nR HOF member would be at his best. Paul's vocals and guitar playing was sweet and Fred was hot. The orginal owner of Guitar Player magazine & I discussed, as we watched Fred play, how effortlessly plays some very difficult leads and the set list had him playing alot of mandilon and blowing his trumpet. Kenny started hoppin' and playing while Sam banged away and Shaun was her pretty self as usual. It must have been getting a day off on Maui that helped them & the crew do a tight, nearly perfect show. HMFIC Denny, (any Feat fans best friend) was on top of his game in Hawaii and the special challenges of island hoping with 21 road cases! Howard had a great mix at the acousticly perfect Castle Theater @ Maui Arts & Culture Center and he really likes having Roger to mix monitors and the band seemed more comfortable. Rocky & Nick had huge smiles from enjoying circling the island and a day off. A great band with a great crew, they all deserve each other! The 1,200 seat MACC was 2/3 - 3/4 full. The fan club had a Rep touring Hawaii with them and clicking lots of pics......the Feats like the Hawaiian islands. They played HNL 3/2; off to Hilo today 3/5 and Kauai on Sunday 3/6; then on to Seattle and points beyond, including a gig you literaly have to snow ski to get to the venue. We don't make anyone surf to our Hawaii gigs! Yea, all the band wore Aloha shirts...and NO them and the crowd did not look anything like "Parrot Heads". The guys who bought "bargin" shirts (like Denny) looked a bit touristy but showed their Hawaiian Aloha. Ritchie even wore a nice lei, amazing he doesn't get tangled up in all the shit he had, must be why he sits low! You have a Great idea to wear Aloha shirts to Feat gigs! It's amazing how many good friends the Feats have everywhere and many of them showed up on Maui, they must know everybody, like Politions do. The Blue Rooster promoter was a bit bummed how many people got VIP passes from Denny....hey, it's Little Feat! Even Pat Simmonds and his wife watched intently and he appeared impressed. Sorry to be so long, but I figured you Feat Fans don't want to be guessing & get the straight scoop....and I was there, with the band & crew and this is what really went down last night on Maui! They even flew the 'Hot Tomato' back-drop to Hawaii..... I had the "honor" of schleping and being the head gopher for the HMFIC....and you couldn't have a better boss for 2-days than Denny! Aloha, Bubba "the fool that I am.....I would do it all over again"
