Dearest Little Feat Fans:
Summer is here, and us folks in wisconsin could not be more happy after spending the majority of the year inside due to the frozen tundra like weather. On monday I was finally able to see one of my favorite bands LITTLE FEAT.
I would like to throw a few thoughts out there on the show and was hoping to get some answers from anyone.
I have two questions regaurding some of keyboard melodies. I sware I heard a "The Doors" tune in one of the songs - can anyone confirm? Also, in the encore, was there a little Dr. John melody in there? Either way, the keys were movin my feet, and I enjoyed the slow classical type melody in the encore as well.
I don't know if anyone else caught this at the summerfest show, but did you see the spotlight mishap? Little Feat had just started to get into a instrumental jam, and you could tell there was not going to be any singing for a while. PLease excuse my lack of knowledge with the names of the members in the band, but the woman lead singer was on the tamborine during this jam, all more evidence that they were going to jam this tune out for a while. She went stage left to try and get some energy out of the crowd which she was very successful at, when just then the spotlight was put on her. You could tell it wasnt the right time to put on the spotlight on the singer, I could tell right away, and sure enough she gave a look to the spotlight person to cut it. Apparently he/she wasnt paying attention and continued to leave the spotlight on for a while. Eventually the lead singer had to make her way behind the keyboardists to make sure to get out of the spotlight.
I loved how the band brought out there local friend from milwaukee, Paul C....something? I forgot the last name, but i remember seeing him at a local event right here in milwaukee two weeks back. I remembered him as being a sort of different style of music than little feat, more dark for a lack of better words. But i thought what Paul brought to the table at the show was fantastic, especially in the encore to dixie chicken. Quick note on dixie chicken, i thought it was brilliant how the band entered back into the song after leaving it for a while, each time it was a little different, just different enough that left me asking myself - are they still going back to dixie chicken? Pauls dark melodies really meshed and blended perfectly to the little feat sound. I was encouraged to see how inviting and helpful little feat was to our local gem Paul as i saw them mouth helpful words when to solo and what not. Seeing Paul on the stage that night playing with little feat reminded me why i love milwaukee. Here i was seeing paul on the street i live on two weeks ago, and last night i saw him playing with one of my favorite bands of all time. Milwaukee trully has a sense of community, that were somehow all tied together in this not so big, yet not so small city, that embraces the summer with festivals, exhibits, and other community gatherings, even farmers markets. I LOVE MILWAUKEE, i dont care how cold it gets here in the summer.
I also loved the little twist you guys threw in on Willin. The band stopped right on the main chorus on the second go around (weed whites wine) and the front man singer paused and asked, i think we all know whats coming next, and most of the crowd, myself included got ready to yell weed, whites wine, when just then little feat went into, dont bogart that joint my friend, and of course the crowd went wild, rightly so.
I also enjoyed the bob marley get up stand up cover, that was followed my a dead tune, scarlet begonias i believe?
If anyone in the band does actually read this, first of all thank you for a good ole time in the brew city. Im sure you could recognize me in the crowd, my friends and I were throwing a lot of energy at you guys, it was like 4 of us stage right ( looking out from the band members perspective) We were standing and singing the whole time. Thank You again for a lovely evening.
