hehehe alright alright ... I'm here too set the record straight With all due respecet Ms Clara ... I've been lucky enough to see Albert, Roy, And Danny (not to mention Lowell and Stevie Ray). If I know anything at all ... it's that Danny was the best guitar player I've ever seen. Danny Gatton had 1 of those Bill Payne ears for music (When fire alarm went off at a state theater show few years back brother Bill simply anounced ... "c sharp"). What set him apart to me ... is all he had to do was hear a sound ... and he could see it on his guitar. He could "do" all the best guitar players in my experience back to back ... ie "here's Chet Atkins meetin Bill Monroe". Teases? In the middle of a Chet riff he would often break into the theme from the Simpsons ... or the Honeymooners. I have simply never seen anyone do what he could do on a guitar. He couldn't sing worth a damn ... but his guitar sure could. Anyone who needs proof ... dannygatton.com Ok ... fight amongst yourselves ... ;D

If it comes from this group of connoisseurs it's all good! , but for some really nice blue notes try this one: "In Session-LIVE" from Albert King & Stevie RaveOn. It's good stuff.

Am really enjoying the work of The Jazz Mandolin Project. Tinged in funk, jazz and of course blue grass, the current touring quartet is just solid. Catch them or wait for my post of a BnP when it's ready.

Boy howdy! I was just listening to disc 2 from Live at the Ramshead. That version of On Your Way down could smoke a side of beef in the next county! It’s one of those cases where they’re blowin’ each other’s minds. Sam … always ready to introduce whoever just soloed “Bill Payne” says instead … “Man!” “Damn!” “Ughhh!” after each and every solo. You can hear their respect for each other, and you can hear it elevate their play IMHO. One of the best trumpet riffs ever from Mr. Fred! “Mmmmm!” says Sam.
I recommend everyone buy it if you haven’t got it. If you do have it, throw it on and tell me if you don’t agree. Man I love this band! I ain’t been this excited to go see a show since Mateel. ;D
Just had to say …<br>So what if I’m only doing the part in Maine tomorrow, I’m “Rollin’ down highway 95”! Peace, T

Hoy Hoy All
Since there seems to be a lot of Roy Buchanan fans here I thought I would share a story about him told to me by a friend who was a sax player in Roys road band.
Seems that they were playing in NY , I think at Carniege Hall and Ed (the sax player)was ready to come out of his big solo and Roy was supposed to take the next solo but when Ed looked at Roy he was leaned against the piano "asleep" (as you all probably know Roy liked a nip or two). Ed had to extend his solo as he walked over to Roy and give him a big kick to wake him up at the same time trying to make it seem a part of the show. Life on the road even at your biggest show.
Unfortunately Roy later commited suicide, another great one lost. We've lost too many.
Peace j

The LZ song (found on Led Zeppelin III), refers to Roy Harper. Mr. Harper is still living, 63 years of age, and was born in England. At the moment I can't elaborate further, but I think I recall reading something about the origins of the song in "Hammer of the Gods" when I read the book years back. If I find the time, I'll try and look it up. Goosfraba - chadgumbo

I just popped in one I'd been overlooking and thought I'd jog some memories.
Dr. John, The Night Tripper, "Gris, Gris". I was reading the liner notes (with a magnifying glass, come on record companies, some of us are getting old of eye but not spirit) and they related how this albumn was recorded on stolen Sonny and Cher studio time. Have we lost the outside the law element of R&R or is it still there?
Peace j

I didn't really know how good Dr. John was til I saw him live. The man can boogie!!! Finally found my CD of Chinese Work Songs, under the car seat. I played it twice coming out to E. Tx. "Sample in a Jar" is a blues geetar phenom that Mr. Barrere presents in dramatic form. Also gotta love that low-down loping rythem & rock of "Marginal Creatures"
