Hello,
By way of introduction, I am a photographer, based in Southern NH but working all over the place. That being said, I have been a fan of the
band forever, and still have all the original vinyl. Recently, I uncovered
a long cut of Lowell, Bonnie Raitt doing a long cut (including charming endless tuning and great dialogue, due to I suppose other factors prior to arriving....smile) of "Can't Find My Way Home" at what I believe is a college radio station. Wonderful stuff ! Not why I'm writing,
but any info would be appreciated on that.
In any case, I am planning on taking a road trip, and shoot "Tucson to Tucumcari", "Tehachapi to Tonapah (Tonopah...seems to be spelled 2 ways)", just so see what Lowell might've seen and document it on film. If he really never drove a truck, and it was just pure poetry that's OK too. Just wanna illustrate the journey.
Here's my problem......after doing my research, I find that there are
two Tonapahs...one in Arizona, outside of Pheonix, and one in Nevada, halfway between Reno and Vegas. I am writing to anyone who might have been
close to Mr. George, and/or anyone and could either speculate with some certainty or knowledge which one it was. If you started near Bakersfield, Ca,(Tehachapi), you would travel essentially north to get to the one in Nevada and cross through some nice terrain. On the other hand, if you headed toward the Pheonix destination, you'd have to go through LA......nonetheless, there could have been the "backroads" apsect as well. Once again, if it was just poetry, perhaps you might know from his background, which one he might have been
thinking of.
Anything you could advise me on would be MOST appreciated, and I can promise that the results will pay tribute to the man.
Feel free to visit my site, if you'd like, at www.davidm.com
Thanks for any direction that you might be able to provide. Anything at
all would be helpful.
