Ahoyhoy!
(snipped from posts to the Hoy Hoy Digest)
We arrived at Amager Bio and found a parking spot quite close to the venue, which wasn't
without problems. Even though Copenhagen is a quite small capitol city with a little over
1 million inhabitants, it has some of the problems that every big city world wide has. Too
many cars and too little space.
We found a good spot for our bus though, and as we approached the venue on foot the
bandbus arrived at the same time, so we were able to form some kind of small "parade" for
welcoming our favourite band to Copenhagen.
The soundcheck! – Well. I was pretty stunned to finally experience ”Voices In The Wind” on
stage. Shaun keeps on achieving new heights of admiration from yours truly. Denny, who
must be quite used to hear whatever tune you ask for, padded me on the shoulder and told
me that this tune gives him goosebumps ev’rytime. Simply fantastic!
The setlist:
1. Cajun Rage (Again an excellent choice of opener).
2. Romance Without Finance (Very good on top of Cajun Rage - Shaun - Well you guessed it.
Smoked :-)
3. All That You Dream (I guess I'll never grow tired of this classic.)
4. Daily Grind (FeatFunk at it's best).
5. Red Streamliner (With minor lyrical misunderstandings, but that didn't matter as long
as we finally got to hear this piece live - Excellent!)
6. Sailin' Shoes (Laila had wished for this piece online, which Paul B mimicly aknowledged
towards her in person, off the PA - She beamed and I love to see her like that :-)
7. Voices In The Wind (I'm getting wet-eyed even as I write. Shaun dedicated this tune to
my Mom who had got a chair inside the rail on the side of the stage. As some may know she
recently had back-surgery and her hip replaced, so we had correspondance back and forth
with webmaster Rick Moore in order to make the situation a bit easier for her on the gig.
Denny was a great help as well and ev'rything was arranged. Thanks a lot to the band, to
Denny and to Rick).
8. "Stomp The Band"/A Night On The Town (Paul actually presented this tune as "Stomp The
Band" as far as I was able to hear. Great to have something from the newest album :-)
9. Why Don't It Look Like The Way That It Talks (And even more news. I think this aspires
to be another FEATclassic.)
10. "Funk Alive" (A great piece of funky FEAT. I don't know if the title is right, and I
never seem to remember to have heard this before . Great though, and shows the versatility
of this band).
11. Oh Atlanta (Fred played the classical Lowell slide-parts of this rendition with the
cleanest high notes i remember to have heard. He used Pauls black Strat for this.)
12. Fat Man In The Bathtub (With Gringo-teaser evolving into Bob Marleys "Get Up - Stand
Up". This brought us on to a solo from Sam, slid over in Kennys solo and ended up in the
notorious Fat Man drumsolo from Richie. I noticed that Fred didn't change guitars between
Oh Atlanta and Fatman, which shows that this man don't care too much, he just PLAYS.
Apparantly it doesn't matter if the guitar is std. Tuned, or it's an open-G. Hats off and
a round of applause for Mister FRED TACKETT!)
13. Let It Roll (And here long-time featfans start to get sad, cause when this
hammond-roar starts you'll know that there's not too much left of the FEATshow. Frankly
this version was STELLAR and the crowd boiled and cooked!)
Ofcourse we didn't leave it at that, and the band hit the stage for an encore.
14. Dixie Chicken (Kenny hat a longer solo in this one and a good grip on the audience. It
all boiled down to Bill making a teaser of "Fighting The Mosquito Wars" accompagnied by
Richie and Sam, after which the whole band entered the stage again for a personal
favourite of mine, especially played by Little Feat - "Tennessee Jed".
After that we had a roaring teaser of the groove to "I Do What The Telephone Tells Me To
Do" and then back to Dixie Chicken. I must confess that I'm developing a growing affection
for the way Shaun and her tambourine looks, feels and sounds on stage in this tune. Just
lovely, and soooo rhythmical ?
All'n'all a great show, which beat the day before in Malmö regarding the vibe in the
audience and the band breaking loose on stage. OK. It was a larger venue and a larger
audience so maybe that explains it.
We had to force ourselves to bed after this fantastic show, cause we made an
appointment to go no later than 11 from Copenhagen to Aarhus for the last Featgig on this
occasion.
