this is a repost from the HoyHoy digest...
Okay, guys. Looks like yours truly and RB2 have inherited the POC mantle for the Astoria show. The plan is to meet at 5.00 at Lee Ho Fooks chinese on Gerrard Street in China Town (the pedestrianised street with the Pagoda at the end) followed by drinks at the huge Moon Under The Water pub on Charing Cross Rd, mere metres from the Astoria and also the site of the second incarnation (before it too closed) of the world famous Marquee club (now a "mega pub" as part of what Tom D. calls Soho Theme Park Plc). It can also be accessed via Greek Street.
Can anyone who's coming e-mail me privately just so I have some idea of who to look out for.
Guy (guy.vickers@gconnect.com)

I went! LF were as good as I remember them 12 years and 35 years ago. Maybe my ears don't work so well anymore, but then my beard is as grey as Freds, and my hair almost as thin as Pauls - so they jam a bit - that's good in my book!

Nice one guys and girls!!!! You gone and done it again!!! The sound was better at this gig than any of the other UK shows too,and the performance goes without saying really, just magnificent. Richie seemed very happy during this gig!! and His solo was bloody great! It was wonderful to hear "Why Dont it Look Like The Way That it Talk" that mandocello is just gorgeous. Again the set wes really varied and I was over the moon to hear Billys Mosquito Wars again. I really do miss the hammond tho` specially on "Spanish Moon-Skin it Back" So huge hugs and thankyous to all of you, and Denny and the rest of the crew, see you in the States sometime in the fall. Peace and love, Emma. PS; look after those shirts!!

Alan,
... What did *you* think of Moe.? ;D I've seen them a couple times and have a few shows and they seem to be a different band each time... I'd value your comments.
Glad you enjoyed the LF show.

Well, I guess that's a little missleading... I saw them once in a club setting as the only band where they could stretch out... thought it was a little indulgent and aimless. Saw them again in a festival setting with 90 min to work with and that tightened up the set and seemed to focus the work a bit more. Got a few shows... 5-24-03 is very good in my limited experience. I've gotten the same comments, or at least a nod of understanding from a long time Moe. fan... that's all. Take care over there!

For those of you not on the hoyhoy digest, here's the setlist from the London Astoria, 13 July 2004
Cajun Rage Driving Blind (Shaun nailed this and she was remarkable throughout.) Time Loves A Hero, (classic sliding segue into: Day Or Night Why Don't It Look Like The Way That It Talk (Fred played that big mandocello, the sound is absolutely incredible, a sort of dream like quality) Cadillac Hotel (again Shaun's use of the mic was amazing) Rocket In My Pocket Willin'(Paul used a big bodied Gibson acoustic) (there was audience participation, and we were invited to join in the Jamaican National anthem): Don't Bogart That Joint Night On The Town It Takes A Lot To Laugh (Awesome) Instrumental into Dixie Chicken Verse 1 (Tennesee Jed?) Fighting The Mosquito Wars (Bill, Richie and Sam only) Dixie Chicken Verse 2 Instrumental (Kenny nailed an aggressive solo) Dixie Chicken Verse 3 Spanish Moon (Sam, who sat throughout, which I hadn't seen before) Let It Roll
Encore, with 2 of Moe on percussion, they looked a bit awestruck to be honest!
Fat Man In The Bathtub (interspersed with:) Gringo Get Up Stand Up Fat Man In The Bathtub (Richie solo, and with a hired set of drums, I'm sure they were ready for binning after he'd done with em)
Plus, a variety of Paul and Fred duals, and Bill doing those wonderful keyboard moments throughout.
All in all a superb night was had by all.
Cheers,
Dave Hope
