Hoy-Hoy Sorry to have missed Lowell's birthday. He is still with us in his music, but we miss him and wish he could be here so we could tell him we still love him.
I suggest we start a campaign to right an injustice.
Why isn't the feat in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It is a disgrace to the hall. If the Feat aren't in the hall then they are telling us that the only criteria they are using is number of sales. To me that is not what music is about, to paraphrase a very smart man its not how many you sell but how long you sell'em. I think people will be listening to the Feat as long as they have listened to Mozart or Bach. In other words, forever.
Also, as muscians and serious music fans know the Feat have been maybe the most influential of American bands. Would the Doobies, Steely Dan, Eagles, Jackson Brown, DMB, or countless other bands been the same if not for the Feat.
I guess I'm preaching to the choir, so here it is. I have been trying to e-mail the Hall with my complaint but if you go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame site they tell you the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation controls all matters concerned with induction. Of course when you go to the Foundations site there is no link. I need help. If someone could find a way to e-mail the foundation we could then flood the Foundation with our protests. I challenge every Feat Fan to help with at least one (better if many) e-mails to these idiots.
If this doesn't work we could always tar and feather that psuedo music fan (read punk) Jann Wenner.
Let's get this done by Lowell's next birthday.
Thanks in advance for your help; J Ashley respond to: jashley11@hotmail.com

Hello J Ashley,
A few years ago an attempt was made to get the band inducted. There was a lot of email traffic and postings on message boards and such (you can go back through the old HoyHoy Digests on the archive to read about it)
From what I remember the end result was the folks at the RRHOF got pissed off.
Here's my take on the RRHOF... IMHO, induction is political. Everything is done from the inside.
Getting inducted is a bonus but it's not an imperative. We can forward the music of the band in lots of other ways.
my 2 cents (unless you're in California where it's $2.95 adjusted for inflation :-)

I couldn't agree more. Something definitly needs to be done about this injustice. Feat, The Allman Bros. and Gov't Mule need to be included in the RRHOF. Anyone, please pass on a E-mail address. I will write until my fingers bleed!

Thanks for your support Dave.
We still haven't had any help on an e-mail address for the rock and roll hall of fame foundation.. If anyone could help please do, this injustice has gone oon long enough. We would not only be helping the Feat but also the RORHOF.
I know the band might not feel comfortble about getting involved but all we need is an address and we'll do the rest. Right Feat Fans.
Thanks in advance JAshley jashley11@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance JAshley jashley11@hotmail.com Jashley, your heart is definately in the proper place, but this is a position that is best left up to the band. We are an exceptional fan base, but this band is more than capable of finding thier own ground. It's like kinda like having your little brother fighting your fights for you. That ground may not be the RRHOF. The RRHOF has become like many radio stations across the country. Legendary musicianship sometimes is not the criteria they are looking for. It's hard for us to accept sometimes, but there is another purpose for this band than to appease kiss-ass record moguls and music award types. Back up two post and read Ricks for more explanation. Sometimes we all want to choke the sh*t out of the rest of the world and ask em "what's the matter with you all", but the truth is, some are gourmet, and some are not! Keep the Feath! Mike

mike, You gotta be a man of good taste so I respect your your opinion. However, you knew that was coming didn't you, I don't feel that this is a fight the band can or should fight. First, for the band to lobby for induction would be like a pretty girl standing on a street corner shouting look at me ain't I pretty. Induction should be in response to a recognition by the public of a bands greatness. In other words the RRHOF is an honor for the band but its really for the fans. Not only to entertain them but to educate them. This would not only be an honor for the band but it would assist the RRHOF in being a more meaningful place. In respose to Rick's remark that the RRHOF got p*ssed off. Hasn' rock and roll always been by and for people who were a little or a lot p*ssed off. So it would probably be good for the RRHOF to get a little p.o.'ed. I always thought it was a little to clean neat and reserved to be about r&r anyway. Probably a reflection of the director Jann Weinie. Maybe I'm wrong; if any fans disagree with me let me know or of course if the band wants me to let it go I will of course respect thier wishes. In the mean time I still need an e-mail for the RRHOF Foundation. Two Trains still runnin' jashley jashley11@hotmail.com P.S. Any word on the tentative date at Wilbert's in Cleveland OH in june, there will be a big crowd from Mansfield if your there. The Feat in a club oh joy!!!!

I'm laying odds right now that Phish makes it in to the Hall before this band does... Not saying that as a comparision of music, but more a statement of politics...
I could be wrong.

DPK I meant to put this under general discussion but I accidently cliked on the tour heading. Being a computer illiterate I haven't been able to figure out how to move the thread to the general discussion, any help from someone on how to move the thread or if you want to just move it, it's o.k. with me. Why Phish? Good band but even less sales and juice than the Feat. Keep on rollin' j ashley

Phish less juice than Feat Depends on who you ask and on what basis you compare them. You'd be very hard pressed to fill an arena with warm Feat Fan bodies but tickets would sell out for Phish, SCI, Dylan, The Dead.... The Feat simply do not have the contemporary fan base that some of these bands can draw on. We'd all agree that it's too bad, but them's the facts as I see'em. Enjoy them while you can still see them, always enjoy the music. I could be wrong. As far as the RRHF goes, I had another thought. To quote a local sports radio talk show host, Dan Barreiro, "We Don't Need You!" I could be wrong there too...

Mike, I don't disagree with your stand on any of the bands you mentioned that "put you to sleep". That's your personal opinion and I wouldn't fault you for holding it. My point of view was that the numbers of fans following LF are much smaller compared to the other bands I mentioned. If you want to argue that those people are dolts, I wouldn't care to, cause some are. I never have gotten too heavy into Phish. Not a tear came to my eye when I learned that they're toast in August. The Dead used to put me to sleep too... fact they still can, but sometimes that's what I need in my music. SCI, give them credit for doing what they do on their own terms. They've built a hell of a following and are not content with staying with some program. They are certainly aiming their "product" at a younger audience and are doing so with out getting tons of air play (ala LF). If you have an ear for blue grass AND extended jams, this band is marvelous. (I'd have been pissed too if a guest came and played nothing but SCI for a week.) I'm sure the Feat sold out many arena back in the day, but the core of the community now, like you and me, are in our late 40s early 50s... How many really popular artists are out there that claim a core fan base with that demo? The Stones, Springsteen, Dylan, maybe Prince now... other big Nostalgia acts that tour infrequently but who've had huge commercial success.... and unfortunately that's what we as Feat Fans can't escape or deny. But I'm still not crying about it. Our band has spoken to us since '72-'73. We didn't need to have our tastes validated by constant air play or MTV video's. We know what we like, and we know why, but untill the music machine takes notice of what us little wheels are doing, we'll just continue to spin in our own well defined, but obscure, gear box and hope to make enough noise that our band feels the need to periodicly swing by and grease our wheels. Billy commented on the RRHF in the last part of the Jambase interview. There's a link to it on this page. Check it out. (My God, did I just write that stuff?? )
