Tipi,
In the Feat version of Framed wasn't there a verse that went something like they poured whiskey on my head and said judge that man is drunk.

Tipi, Thanks for putting up those lyrics for "Framed". I was not aware that this was a song written by someone other than Lowell. Jashley, you're right there are some subtle changes in the Feat version... at least on the Hoy Hoy album. Eerily, one difference is when Lowell poses the question, "Where were you on the night of June 29?", which would turn out to be, in 1979, the day Lowell passed away. I believe a different date altogether was given in Tipi's previous posting, which are apparently the original lyrics. The other difference is the one you (Jashley) alluded to. I believe it went But when the judge came down, poured whiskey on my head, turned me around to the jury and said convict this man he's drunk, what could I do? Or something along those lines. It's great humor. Thanks Todd for sparing me the majority of the typing. -chadgumbo

Here's one that has been looping in my head lately!
While you were sleeping They came and took it all away The lanes and the meadows The places where you used to play
It was an inside job By the well connected Your little protest Summarily rejected
It was an inside job Like it always is Chalk it up to business as usual
While we are dreaming This little island disappears While you are looking the other way They'll take your right to own your own ideas
And it's an inside job Favors collected Your trusted servants Have left you unprotected
You think you're so smart But you don't have a fucking clue What those men up in the towers Are doing to me and you And they'll keep doin it and doin it and doin it and doin it and doin it and doin it and doin it Until we wake up wake up wake up
And it's an inside job To learn about forgiving It's an inside job To hang on to the joys of living
They know the road by which you came They know your mothers maiden name And what you had for breakfast And what you've hidden in the mattress
Insect politics Indifferent universe Bang your head against the wall But apathy is worse
It's an inside job.
Don Henley

This has always been a great song, but at 46 I’m appreciating it now more and more…
SLOW TURNING By John Hiatt
When I was a boy I thought it just came to ya But I never could tell what’s mine So it didn’t matter anyway
My only pride and joy Was this racket down here Bangin’ on an old guitar And singin’ what I had to say
I always thought our house was haunted But nobody said boo to me I never did get what I wanted Now I get what I need
Chorus It’s been a slow turnin’
From the inside out A slow turnin’, baby But you come about
Slow learnin’
But learn to sway A slow turning, baby Not fade away
Now I’m in my car I got the radio on I’m yellin’ at the kids in the back seat ‘cause they’re bangin’ like Charlie Watts
You think you’ve come so far In this one horse town Then she’s laughin’ that crazy laugh ‘cause you haven’t left the parking lot
Time is short and here’s the damn thing about it You’re gonna die, gonna die for sure And you can learn to live with love or without it But there ain’t no cure
Chorus There’s just a slow turnin’
From the inside out A slow turnin’, baby But you come about
Slow learnin’
But learn to sway A slow turning, baby Not fade away

Some lyrics to kind of say how I feel about the election, as so often happens for me they come from Peter Gabriel
Now were busy making all our busy plans On foundations built to last But nothing fades like the future And nothing clings like the past, until we can see
More than this, more than this So much more than this
More than This Peter Gabriel, UP

Oh Holy Administrator
I have been reading a biography of Howlin' Wolf and I don't want to start a dispute about who wrote what and you are absolutely correct that Willie Dixon was credited with writing Spoonful and several other song done by the Wolf but it is interesting how many Blues songs were "written". The Wolf was doing, by many reports a song called Spoonful or Spoonful Blues way back in the 1930's and by most reports it was a tune penned by Charlie Patton. Also, according to many musicians on the sessions Willie rarely wrote the music to the tunes he was credited with but only the lyrics. With all blues musicians you will find that many themes and lyrics were, to be polite, recycled. I can't remember who said it but the old saying tht the best r&r writers were the best at stealing was very true in the old blues musicians too. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, if you can take an old idea and put your personal stamp on it, your making the ideas and the traditions we all hold dear new all over again.
Peace j ashley

Okay, this probably isn't the brainbuster that it seems to be to me... We've all heard countless Christmas songs done by various rock 'n roll, blues, country & western, artists BUT can anyone think of a song that was written about Thanksgiving? Is it just me, or does this holiday always seem to play Robin to Christmas's Batman? Just curious -chadgumbo

I spin an ol' vinyl version of Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant (the "crime" occurs on Thanksgiving) for guests at my home on Turkey Day. It's about as close as it comes to a Thanksgiving Day anthem for me.

And what an anthem it is! I'd forgotten that the "massacree" takes place on Thanksgiving day. I'll have to dig that one out and give it a listen myself. Just don't expect me to post the lyrics to the whole thing here Then before you know it, we'd have somebody posting the lyrics to Yes's Relayer, and God only knows where it would stop after that. Mark, I don't have the "grandmother's house" ditty on a CD anywhere, but it was bouncing around in my head for an hour or so after I read your post. I knew a few of you would come through for me! - chadgumbo

Don't know about the rest of the country, but up here in New England just about every rock and pop station plays Alice's Restaurant in its entirety on Thanksgiving Day. I heard that this year Sirrius satellite radio had a station devoted to just Alices Restuarant and they played it all day long!. Rollin' Mark I spin an ol' vinyl version of Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant (the "crime" occurs on Thanksgiving) for guests at my home on Turkey Day. Howabout a Mr Hiatt tune?
Icy Blue Heart - John Hiatt
She came onto him like a slow movin' cold front. And his beer was warmer than the look in her eye. She sat on a stool, and he said "what do you want?" She said "give me a love that don't freeze up inside".
He said, "I have melted some hearts in my time dear But to sit next to you, Lord, I shiver and shake And if I knew love, well, I don't think I'd be here Askin' myself if I've got what it takes."
To melt your icy blue heart Should I start? To turn what's been frozen for years Into a river of tears
'nough said 'bout that.

TV commercials are the worst for planting a song in your head that you are then unable to stop thinking about. Today, because of that cellular phone commerical, I've got The Band on the brain and I can't shake it. I rolled into Nazareth, I was feeling about half past dead. I just need to find a place where I can lay my head. Hey mister can you tell me where a man can find a bed? He just grinned and shook my hand, no was all he said. Take a load off Annie!... The hell of it is it's a pretty good song, but I'm tired of it bouncing around between my ears. Guess I'll have to pop a CD into the stereo as soon as I get home from work. Feliz Lunes - chadgumbo
