It was wierd to hear that when CCR was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame, he refused to perform at the ceremony with his ex-bandmates. When you read the credits of the CD, he is playing several instruments on all of the songs....apparently laying one over the other. Must have a hard time finding someone he thinks enough of to perform with him!! Anyone know anymore about that?? if it's the legal battle I'm thinking of, it was a weird one ... when Fogarty left CCR the band retained the CCR copyright, which meant of course that Fogarty couldn't use CCR tunes or the CCR name. so, he went out on his own as John Fogarty, but the remaining members of CCR sued to stop him. simply put, they sued Fogarty to stop him from recording any music out on his own because (here comes the weird part) he sounded too much like himself ... turns out that CCR really had no other sound than the sound of Fogarty with musicians behind him. it was dismissed by a judge who essentially said that no one had the right, even under copyright, to stop someone from sounding like themself ... so Fogarty carried on and CCR was left sucking wind. put me in coach ...

watch out - todd has been drinkin' & thinkin' again! tonight i'm listening to David Lindlay & Wally Ingraham (8 to 10:30 @ Jammin'Java in Vienna,VA), then over to the State Theatre in Falls Church to catch Acoustic Syndicate. Last night watched all the extra song clips from "Festival Express" in surroundsound. Gawd, Janis could put on a show!
Hope a bunch of y'all are in Maine tonight to catch a show by Little Feet. I hear they are pretty good and still have some of their original members!
peace, backfool bob

I've had a taste for the new millenium's version of hard-rock for the past few days. I've been listening to Velvet Revolver, Contraband, and I've also been listening to Tool. A couple of my favorite songs from Tool would be 46 and 2, and Eulogy. For my money former Pilot and now Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland has some of the best pipes in the business. I'm hoping that he won't self-destruct and go the way of Layne Staley. Speaking of Layne Staley, another album/CD of this genre of music that is exceptionally good is Jerry Cantrell, Degradation Trip. For what it's worth... -chadgumbo

Fleetwood Mac, Last Dance (for Lindsey Buckingham, one of the most underated guitar payers of our time, check out his solo cd's)
Supertramp, Breakfast in America (holds up suprisingly well)
Peter Gabriel, Up (Can't seem to get it out of the player, its speaking to me at this time in my life)
Blind Faith (I must be in a nostalgic mode, again still holds up)
Annie Lennox, Diva (what a voice)
The Feat, Waiting For Columbus (you all know)

Hoy Hoy All,
First I am supremely jealous of all y'all that got to go to Jamaica, maybe next year I can join you.
I have had Joe Strummer's and the Mescoleros, "Streetcore", in my cd player for a week. Even if you didn't like the Clash don't overlook this CD, IT'S GREAT! Joe sadly died shortly after the making of this albumn but it is a great last statement from a great musician. Try it, you'll like it.
Peace j

I had to pull an all-nighter the night before last. A couple of times a year I'm just going to be unlucky, and this was one of those nights. Fortunately, there's a fairly nice stereo where I work, and in the wee hours of the morning there's nobody else around. To help me get through the night I had the following in the CD player... Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers Empty Arms Motel, SRV Couldn't Stand the Weather, and John Mayall Along for the Ride. Jashley, I'm intrigued by the Joe Strummer CD. I'll be looking for it Goosfraba all - chadgumbo [shadow=red,left,300]Hey Mike[/shadow] Wanted to make sure I got your attention with shadow graphic Anyway, I'm going to be blowing through your neck of the woods in about 10 days or so. Will be passing through Dallas on my way to Galveston. If I hit Dallas at the right time of day, I may swing by the old apartment and show the kids where I once lived in my college days. Also want to hit the Yukon Jack's hamburger joint if possible. If you're in town, and if the timing's right, maybe you could join us for lunch? We'll see. Gotta run... Chad

I'll be in Little Rock all of this coming week, but should be, as Mr. Fuller sang, "all around Dallas" the week after that. We love to go to Galveston! It's not the best beaches, or the prettiest beach resort, but it's a quaint, historical town with a good vibe. BTW-A couple of Mayall records I've been suggesting all over this website it seems (result of discussion of Coco Montoya) are "Wake Up Call" & "A Sense of Place" Give me a shout! Mike

Hoy Hoy All
Have any of you heard the VH1 Storytellers CD with The Late Great Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. I pulled it out and slapped it in the CD player recently and it is great. If you get a chance check it out. These two guys with two acoustic guitars, two mics, and talent keep the crowd mesmerized from beginning to end, an amazing performance.
Also, speaking of Johnny have you all seen the video of the Trent Reznor song "Hurt", I thought it was one of the best videos (and songs) ever. When Justin Timberlake got his MTV award for "Pop" over this video even he knew it was a crock and "gave" the award to Johnny.
Johnny you are sorely missed and I hope you're somewhere with June and happy.
Peace j

Hi Jashley I haven't forgotten about it. I liked some of what The Clash did in their day. The Joe Strummer CD is on my list of "would like to pick it up sometime" CDs along with one of Robert Plant's not so recent CDs and a couple of others. More at the top of the list right now would be U2's latest and, of course, BP's - Cielo Norte. I haven't been lucky enough to find Bill's new CD on store shelves here in Rochester and I am trying to remain patient. I may have to just go ahead and order it through the LF website, Amazon, or CDnow. Ah, so many CDs... so little cash ;D -chadgumbo

Has anyone seen the Pontiac GTO commercial with a "ghost" intro of The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go", then into the song. It's pretty cool. The song selection may reflect on the rather cool reception in sales the new GTO is getting. It's actually an Australian Pontiac that they switched the drivers side on and are trying to sell it as the re-born GTO. Personally, I think it's pretty bland looking (I'm rambling). But anyway... I've also noticed that the major manufacurers are going back to more "real" (as SRV would call it) music, like Cadillac using Led Zep's "Been a Long Time" for thier sales campaign for quite some time now. There are some others too recently that I can't think of right now.
