Tonight, I'm listening to Randy Newman's "Sail Away" the album released in 1972. Just bought Rhino's remastering CD at Amazon. It brings me back to my school days and makes me romantic now.
In those days. I had kind of anger against something. But didn't know what that was. Anyway, music is a so-called "time machine" I think. :-)
Dear friends. Tonight, what time machine are you listening to? It would be great if you could share our memories here.

i've been listening to susan tedeschi "just won't burn". i think it came out about 3 years ago (her new one is also great). this is a great blues cd, but also has that flame of passion that makes it great "mood" music if ya know what i mean.
next, i'm breaking out the david bowie "singles" double cd i have to go back and hear all that crazy stuff. he just played here sunday night and got a great review. since i didn't go to the show, thought i'd go back and listen to ziggy and see how the music fares in my ears in 2004.
cheers, bob

Bob, Great choice! I'm still listening to "Wait For Me", and I've also downloaded some of her shows from Sharingthegroove.com. Particularly like the ones where Derek helps out on slide guitar. Also Alicia Keys and Etta James in the rotation -- Jeez, the women are taking over!

Time machine indeed, Ringo. I'm tracking Dick Dale, 5/14/04, Cabooze, Minni-apple. King of the surf guitar sound. Never saw him before and he blew me away. Drummer was great, bass was very good and Dick played some trumpet and did a Satchmo immitation... this is an unofficial offer, BTW. It will not make my list.
Nice call on the Randy N., also. I always liked his style.
Night night... .... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Driving down the beach road looking at the Atlantic and listening to Led Zeplin 1. Great time machine! IMHO, there's not a bad cut on the disc.
I remember sitting in the Grandy Ballroom in Detroit for Zep's first tour through the States. The poster advertising the show said: Led Zeplin (Formerly the Yardbirds).
Nick Miller...

I got a chance to see Zeppelin in '73 in Mobile, Alabama and they blew the roof off. Those fellahs could flat out rock. Listening to Feat now from an '88 gig at Rockefellers in Houston. Good show and thanks to Ctownchris for the BnP. He's a good man no matter what anyone else may say!!!

;D Headed to see Delbert McClinton this Friday night at the Carrington Pavillion in Danville, Virginia, which is a relatively new semi-outdoor venue (1,100 reserved seating and lawn general admission) that is building a great seasonal program of real good musical performances......their theme for the season is Rockin' at the River !! Sooooo to warm up for Delbert's show I'm listening to Delbert McClinton - Live !! Two CDs that Rock!! Carrington Pavillion has not finished booking for this year's season, so I'm trying to contact their booking agent and see if they can't geehaw with LF's agent for a show about the time of the scheduled event at Nissan Pavillion. After playing inappropriate 2nd fiddle to the Allman Bros, the Feat deserve an immediate gig as the headliner!!!

Hoyhoy Bob, Nog, Nick, Dave, TB, farmboy and all the mates,
I enjoyed your "time machine" stories. Very iteresting!
Zep, wow. They were the "icon" for this boy lived in Japan. My most favorite one is "II". How about, Nick?
Satchmo.....Dave, you brought me back to old old days. "It's a wonderful.....".
Now, I'm listening to an American lady Grethchen Wilson. "Redneck Woman".....I guess she's a new singer. Not bad. I recalled Lowell in her song.
Everybody, have a nice weekend.

Tonight the roation has been
Sheryl Crow/ Globe sessions
Little Feat/ Dixie Chicken
Dave Mathews Band/ Busted Stuff
Elvis Costello and the Attractions/ The first one with Allison on it.
Clash/ London Calling
You know I would rather anyone on this thread's playlist was coming out of my radio than the BS we do get. Fight for low power radio and the break-up of the facist radio conglomerates. Start by not listening to anything on "Clear Channel", they do understand losing money. Power to the People.
Peace j ashley

Recently for the "Time Machine": James Taylor-Gorilla (I'd forgotten what a wonderful recording...) John Prine-The Missing Years (do yourself a favor...)
Newest purchase: JJ Cale-To Tulsa and Back (excellent lowkeyed laidback tight groove, can't seem to keep it out of my player)
Good thread Ringo! My favorite new Randy Newman is the theme song from "Monk" on tv. "..people say I'm crazy, I worry all the time,...if you paid attention, you'd be worried too."

Regarding the time machine ... As you may have guessed from my recent posts on the "favorite lyrics" thread, I've been listening to [glow=red,2,300]Chicago's[/glow] Dialogue Parts I and II. Dont it make you angry, when a war keeps dragging on? and [glow=red,2,300]Buffalo Springfield's[/glow] Stop, Hey What's That Sound? As for music from this side of the millenium I've been listening to Monte Montgomery and Feat's Kickin' It at the Barn. - chadgumbo

Just recently bought (yes I buy....not only enjoy reading all the credits, but also feel good about honoring the talent and time that went into making the music!!) John Fogerty's new CD [glow=red,2,300]DejaVu - All Over Again[/glow] This legend sure knows how to write music that's easy to listen to!! I think the title tune is a knock on the war in Iraq!! But the very next song - [glow=red,2,300]Sugar Sugar[/glow] is just plain ol' fun to listen to!! Can't really figure out Fogerty as a person though!! It was wierd to hear that when CCR was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame, he refused to perform at the ceremony with his ex-bandmates. When you read the credits of the CD, he is playing several instruments on all of the songs....apparently laying one over the other. Must have a hard time finding someone he thinks enough of to perform with him!! Anyone know anymore about that??

I just remember a major falling out with CCR, their producer, and everybody involved over cantracted royalties. One of his CCR band mates was his brother Tom, the the other guitarist. He later wrote a song about said producer, "Vance can't Dance", and got sued for it, and had to actually quit playing it. That's all I can remember without the aid of "google", and it's too late for that. His question still pertains..."who'll stop the rain?" Goodnite

Tonight ... well, as soon as Kerry stops thumping on that little meglomaniac ... I am listening to the Beat Farmers (Loud & Plowed), PowerThud (Wide) -- which is a band of folks left over from the Beat Farmers -- Calexico (The Black Light), Rhythm Country & Blues (an anthology of duets between country and R&B singers), and Los Lobos (Ride).
