Greeting y'all, i picked up a few new releases from some favorite artists. Roots rocker Ray Wylie Hubbard just gets better being captured on cd- he's always been a storyteller in concert- and i love his last 2 cds especially "Growl". His new"delirium tremelos" is growing on me (eeek!). if you like the singer songwriter vein, take a listen.
Two of my local favorites Reckless Kelley has a new one out-"Wicked Twisted Road" has some great rocking alt country . Micky and the Motorcars (2 brothers from the Braun family ) is strong for a 2nd cd in the same fashion.
New releases from Buddy Miller, the Greencards, Rilo Kiley, the Warren Brothers, Radney Foster are getting car airplay.Jon Dee Graham's"the great battle" is in the kitchen ; he's like Tom Waits. Listening to Bill Payne's new cd and hoping you all get it soon. anxiously waiting for the new studio feat, new jimmy lafave, new stephen bruton, and new resentments, all to be released shortly!
any more recommendations, hoyers? keeping my ears and eyes open, lets hear it! mg

POCO is one of my favorite bands from yesteryear and I knew that thhe remnants were occasionally performing live, but couldn't hook up with one. Recently they released a new live performance recording - Keeping the Legend Alive, so I bought it. They advertised that the CD was accompanied with a bonus DVD. When I got it I watched the DVD first and WOW that alone was worth every penny I spent. I didn't know it until I watched the interviews included in the DVD, but band founder Richie Furray was no longer active in the music industry because he had become a minister. Well they brought him back for this live performance and recording and he showed that he certainly can still ROCK. The band also features Paul Cotton and Rusty Young. Rusty showed that he still is one outstanding guitarist and the band still carries great harmonies. Get this one......well worth the buy!!

Jashley had made reference to Tito and Tarantula on the movie soundtracks thread, and I posted a couple of CD album jacket images of theirs on that same thread. However, with the nature of this post I felt that this thread might be more appropriate. Anyway, I spotted another album of theirs. It's called Tarantism, lists 10 tracks, and a purchase price of $33.98 Anybody remember Ray Romano's standup routine when he says "That better be a good chip" ? He was talking about a bag of potato chips that he wanted to munch on, but the chips were cooked with a fat substitute instead of regular cooking oil. On the package there's a warning that says consuming the chips may cause "anal leakage". So rather than walk away from it, Ray simply says "That better be one good chip" ;D The point being, with an asking price of $33.98 for a 10 track CD, well - that better be one good CD I listened to some samples of it and one of their others as well, and I have to say I'm in Jashley's camp. I liked what I heard. I also liked the purchase price of their other albums, Little Bitch, and Hungry Sally and Other Killer Lullabies. Both came in at just under $10-. Where did I find 'em? cdnow.com and amazon.com. There album jackets are pretty out there, and Tarantism was intriguing in its own way as well. But if I get seriously interested in buying it I think I'll have a look around for a somewhat better price. That's my story, and I'll stick with it as long as there aren't any consequences. - chadgumbo

I have just discovered the band that I think is the best thing since Little Feat, OK I may have been a bit slow to catch on but The String Cheese Incident are really doing it for me at the moment. Can anyone tell me if they have a bulletin board or somewhere where I can tell `em how great they are? I have looked but cant find one.
Apart from that the list is long and varied ; Joni Mitchell.. Joe Walsh..... Led Zeppelin.......Paul Simon.......The Doobies......Stevie Ray Vaughan.......Santana.....The Band.......Dr.John......John Martin....etc..
cheers Emma.

Since no one picked up on my earlier post, I'll mention them again -- the Sons of Champlin are well worth a listen --- Secret was recorded in 2002 and is a portion of a concert they played in February of that year, and Hip Lil Dreams is a studio recording that will be released in August by DigMusic (available from the Sons at www.sonsofchamplin.com, or from Amazon or CD Universe). I need a little help and am betting one of my friends out here on the LFMB will know how to fix the problem. I visited wikipedia.org today. I was reading the Jim Hodder entry and noted that they listed the complete date of death, but only had the year of birth (1947). I happened to know that the complete date of birth was December 17, 1947 (btw - happy birthday Jim, you're missed). So I made the attempt at editing the date, and sure enough the change stuck. But the text comes up in parantheses and in black, while the date of death is listed in a blue text. Would like to get the date of birth to match the text that was originally in place. Any ideas anyone?

Any ideas anyone? I think the changes go over to the regular text after they've been reviewed by the original author of the article or after a certain time period ... I'm not a wiki kinda guy but seem to remember reading this in a FAQ somewhere ...

I don't know how this one got by me for so long, but with my good Friends Rollin Mark and MG persuading me to my first two Subdudes Shows in Dallas and Austin, I am completely hooked now as a "Dudeshead". I am a sucker for beautiful melody, harmony, funk, soul, and a fun attitude. This band has all that and so much more. I am in awe! A double billing with Feat and Subdudes just might be approaching "enough fun"....nah, no way, but a definite enhancement for these little road trips is "too much Mark" in the passenger seat! Or was it me in the passenger seat.....oh man. ;D

It was great watching Mustang Mike enjoy the subdudes so much! now if only we could lure him to JazzFest, where the dudes are one night and the feats another, and Mark is present.... Mike might never recover!
