Agree %100 on MOE/Vinnie ... best part of it all is the fact that they open the Astoria gig for Des Feat! London bound hoyers don't miss this band! The 1st meeting between Richie & Vinnie alone would be worth the admission. Long distance love, T

Rick
Speaking of drummers. Have you, Ritchie. or other featers checked out Manu Katchu (not sure of the spelling, he is african) the drummer for Peter Gabriel and Sting, tough life huh. This guy is not only ALWAYS in the pocket but is massively complex in his rhythmic paterns, not to mention very tasty. I'm interested in your coments.
Speaking of muscian knowing the work of the Feat. Any muscian worth his salt not only knows Little Feat's work but has studied and revered said work. As I stated above I feel the Feat are arguably THE most influential American band. I love a lot of these descendant bands (DMB, REM come immediately to mind) but they owe a great debt to the Feat. Never fear the musicians of the world know and love LIttle Feat.
I have found that good musicians generally have great respect for the toil, trouble and work or other serious muscians. Its the "stars" and posers who get caught up in the envy and back biting that you sometimes unfortunately see in the music community.
Keep on rollin' Peace jashley

If you get a chance, get a hold of some moe and listen to Vinnie Amico beat on the cans. I really like this guy’s work and so does Richie. Little Feat has always been held in the highest regard amongst the players that are involved in the real business of music. moe is only one example and it’s not a stretch to name off a long list of other bands. These bands are successful in their own right and are pulling in what is a sorely needed asset for the Feat community, folks that are between 23 and 35. The music community that surrounds the Little Feat community is a pretty spectacular place and although the musicians know of Feat, a lot of their fans aren't aware of Feat's music. That’s where the Little Feat Live Sampler #1 can be put to good use, and what it was produced to accomplish. Rick Rick, Thanks for the tip on moe. Have requested some for Fathers Day. Cool story about Vinnie and Richie. My son and his bride go to Bonnaroo, and have in fact just gotten back. For 3 days they treat their neck of the campground to some Little Feat off and on. Invariably, every year they get many comments like "why aren't those guys here?" It's been evolving for 30 years! I've always found huge irony in the fact that LF are a bands Band, yet.... I remember there being a "lull" in the R&R Industry the day Lowell was buried. So many Rockers were in S California for the ceremony, with many shows being postponed. To me, it spoke volumes!!! Take care, and thanks again. Mike (for a non-feat related thread, we're not abiding.....oh well...can't help it!) ;D

Little Feat has been my favorite band since the day in 1978 that my brother laid his diamond on the opening track of Waiting For Columbus. First time I'd heard them and have been a loyal fan since.
But as a music lover, other favorite bands/artists would include...
Cool thread... let's hear from some others. - Monoped

For all you people on the west coast, the Sons of Champlin (www.sonsofchamplin.com) are about to hit the road again in September and October -- a truly great band that is playing at the absolute peak of its powers. Bill Champlin on guitar, B3 and lead vocals, Geoff Palmer on B3, keys, vibes and whatever else comes to mind, Tal Morris (the new guy) on guitar, Dave Schallock on bass, Jimmy Preston on drums, Mic Gillette on brass (he played on Waiting for Columbus), and Marc Russo on saxes -- one of the very few bands in existence that plays with the power of Little Feat or Los Lobos. Check them out.

Wow! Lots of interesting music. Many folks that I have on my list. I do find it odd, and a little hard to believe, no one has mentioned Phish yet. I'll miss them. They, along with Little Feat, are the only bands I'd drive more than 8 hours to see.

Hi Spinz, There is a guy who occasionally makes posts here that is a pretty big Phish fan. His LF message board name is "Phishtez". He was posting pretty regularly in July on the Tour 2004 message board under the Wolverhampton thread. He lives in England and had seen the Wolverhampton show over there. Just FYI - chadgumbo

Just had a few minutes and read through the entire thread ... pretty diverse musical tastes in this family, I must say. Cool.
A lot of bands already mentioned make my list, but I won't list them again. Let me add a few that I like (and have liked) that no one has mentioned yet ...
• Beat Farmers • Anything with Country Dick Montana of the Beat Farmers ... including the Pleasure Barons, which was Mojo Nixon (now there's an interesting "band") and Dave Alvin • Almost anything with Dave Alvin • Amazing Rhythm Aces (Russell Smith has a VOICE) • String Cheese Incident • There's -- I guess this is what you would call it -- a retro New Wave movement popping up with some pretty good stuff coming from bands like Ambulance and Chomsky • Roy Rogers (and Norton Buffalo) and who can forget (or overlook) • The Firesign Theater (oops ... and they do do music) • Roxy Music (not much grease in this one, todd) • Cracker (or Camper Van ...) • Little Ed and the Blues Imperials • Little Charley and the Nightcats • Bobby McFerrin and I gotta stop ...

Just saw Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell on TV (Notorious Cherry Bombs), and that was pretty good stuff ...
I never would have thought of putting Vince Gill on my list, but Rodney Crowell is one I just flat out forgot about. Thinking of him then immediately made me start thinking of others I left out -- like Nick Lowe or Dave Edmunds (and don't forget their collaboration, Rockpile), or John Prine, or T-Bone Burnett.
More importantly, collaboration between Vince Gill and Rodney Crowell can only move BOTH of their careers forward by cross-pollinating the fan base. Members of Feat collaborate with others all the time, but I am not so sure the collaboration is put out there in the front clearly enough for non-Feat fans of the collaboratee (if there is such a word) to go -- oh, Little Feat, I've heard of them, maybe I will check them out.
Just a thought, probably not worth the ink its typed with

Scott, Very good point! The Cherry Bombs were a band that Gill and Crowell had many moons ago before they each developed their current following and have recently done a re-united thing. As many large name acts that exclaim LF as one of their favorites, how has that not "lit the fuse" so to speak? It can happen as ppl like John Lee Hookers "sales" really took off after collaberations with other artist. Santana was about in the tank when suddenly with guest artist collaborations.... But on a selfish note, wouldn't it be different to be standing behind hundreds of people hoping to talk to Richie?

Scott Good call on Dave Edmunds. Many years ago Dave did a tour with what he called a rock and roll review. He put together a hot ass band (inc. T-Bone) and several front men to take the lead:Kim Wilson (of the Thunderbirds), Graham Parker, Dion, Dave himself, and of course Nick Lowe. This was one of the wildest shows I have ever seen, had'em dancin' in the ailes in Cleveland (at the Palace), and Cleveland is a tough town, they've seen everybody and if they like you they love you and if they don't it's going to be a long quiet night for the band.
Peace j ashley
P.S. When I read this thread it reminds me that there is a lot of great music in the world, how come very little of it makes it to radio.
