I'm just passing this along. I'm not making a judgment one way or another. It is only one person's perspective read on... (from another message board) ok
so i go to see/tape little feat at a venue that i've never been to this past saturday. as i'm parking i see another taper, mimna3, he's already headin' in. everywhere i looked there were NO TAPING posted. all the flyers/web site/email info...you get the picture. so by the time i finish gettin' it together to head in..i don't see jim, so i guess all is well.
... etc I wasn't at that show, but I've seen it all before ... the seat police at some shows can be really, really annoying if you're the sort of person who can't sit at a Feat show, and the staff at some theaters just don't know how to handle it properly ... having said that, from the tenor of the post it sounds like this fellow had at least as much attitude going on as the seat police, so I'd guess he brought some of it on himself.... and his attitude about the age of the audience would sorely tempt me to have a fatherly chat with him ... as to the input jacks being mysteriously unplugged from his taping rig, well, that would imply a conspiracy, wouldn't it?

Now Don and Hank, you know the whole world would be much happier, more fun and more mellow if everything was just like a Grateful Dead show... " this is almost as sacrilegious as sittin at a dead show IMO!"
At least this tapehead likes Little Feat - good taste there. I have to admit, if I saw someone disconnecting a taper's cables at a show, I wouldn't sit idly by for that. I'd call Hank over...

<snip>and his attitude about the age of the audience would sorely tempt me to have a fatherly chat with him ... <snip> He's 40ish... that would mean you got to the alter when you were, what? 12 and knee high to a married grasshopper ;D 40ish? hmmm ... well, I guess that illustrates the down side to never completely growing up ...

Mac I'm having a tough time imagining an usher or even a security type taking the time to sabotage a taper by sneakily unplugging their cables, but I suppose it could happen ... I'm more inclined to believe it was a misplaced foot in the dark that done it. or maybe it was Col. Mustard in the conservatory with the lead pipe ...

I have had this happen with taking a camera in on a number of occasions at Feat shows. Do 'Feat Rules" superceed venue rules? One would think its whatever the band wants. I wonder if their policies are expressed to each venue they go to.

Let me see, last time I checked, 50+ would include every band member...except Sam. He's only 39. And Shaun who wouldn't be a day over 21. Oh, and the HMFIC who is ageless!
As a 50+er who has followed the band since 1969 I am proud to say that I can sit and enjoy as well as stand and enjoy. It's just that sitting is a little easier now. My feet still tap and my head rocks and my terrible air guitar movements still emerge despite every effort to quell them.
At least they weren't asleep.
Looking forward to hearing the music again this tour...sitting or standing or lying down.

I wonder if their policies are expressed to each venue they go to. I think more than a little of it has to do with how the rule affects the audience ... take taping first: tapers (for the most part; not sure about our petulant 40ish friend) don't get in the way or interfere with the rest of the audience's enjoyment of the show, so most venues will accede to the band's rules about taping. photography is quite different .. even if a band allows photography, a lot of would-be photographers haven't a clue how to shoot without either getting in the way or using a flash, both obviously distracting and annoying to the audience (and the flash is hard on the band as well). the venue would obviously be concerned about this, so they'd enforce their rules to avoid problems. ... and, of course, dancing at your seat in a seated show is even more obstructive to the rest of the audience; dancing in the aisles at the side is probably illegal as per fire codes (like sitting in the aisles would be). again, the venue will enforce its own rules regardless of what the band says. it may be a royal pain in the ass, but lots of folks forget that their ticket is a legal contract ... no matter how loud the squawking about the fascist seat police and all, when you buy that ticket you've agreed to abide by their rules and they've got the right to kick you out if you don't ... it doesn't make an up tight, restrictive venue any more fun, but it is the reality.

Very true Hank. Once again the correct position on a difficult topic. All ticket holder have certain rights as does the venue. You are such a sage.

hehehehehe Just spoke to the good people @ Little Feats killington,vt. Fan headquarters The Happy Bear She has been waiting with baited breath for the call Rooms are 69.00 ... smoking OR non ... 1 bed or two ... so whos's comin? Emporer Marcus Josephus? Don the Dearslayer? Pags? The King Of All tapers?. Anyone remember who took this picture? I will be dragging brother Tym (State, birchmere, Sweet Carolines), or rather he'll be driving my Elephant, and of course ... since part of the trip will be banking related ... I will be bringing my jew. That's him on the far left. Let me try to explain the look on his face. The guy, who at 1st was sceptical as to whether or not he would have fun coming for sound check ("I'll be in the way!")... talked himself into it ... well just as he was about to decide he had been right, and was just in the way, when Fast Freddy Tackett walked up and said "Hey man! What's your story?" Well they chatted ... then his first ever live Feat ... then his inception to ... it only now occurs to me was perhaps the first time a motley crew was refered to as "The Usual Suspects." next day nirvana. ^ Still hoping to hit P'sP ... but might decide it would be ... oh what's that word you people still use ... oh yeah! Crazy! We might decide breaking up the drudgery of the roadtrip "to be productive" just to see a Little Feat show ... good dinner ... and good friends might be Crazy! hehehe of course if it's up to the toothless guy? Color me Cookoo! I'm all in. Cool Runnin's T He who lives without folly isn't so wise as he thinks.
