marc my man
helen sends you the philly jeer that you taught her (or was that a cheer?) ... no matter the outcome, true fans always look forward to another good year (and you need to know, we had absolutely no stake or particular interest in this year's super bowl, but we were pulling for philly because of that glorious shirt you wore in Jamaica -- mon -- and because we kind of like you)
so bill ... if you read this, I want you to know that this is the type of interaction that your band (well, the band) creates ... pretty cool, huh?

I nearly fell out of my chair when you started to play Truck Stop Girl! It's one of my favorite songs of all time and after 35 shows, one of the only songs I've not ever heard performed live. I'd love to see it added to the playlist. Preferably at the next Dewey Beach, DE show. Oh, and I just picked up Cielo Norte. Incredible stuff! Buy the ticket, take the ride. Cheers, UnderFoot

Bill, I read your interview in this months "Keyboard" magazine. By the way I protested to them when they did their 30th anniversary issue and had the 30 most influential keyboardists and you (and Nicky Hopkins) were not mentioned. Anyway, I liked it when you mentioned going to your first record company and they complained that your music was too "diverse" and then you brought out your first albumn and it was still pretty damn diverse ever though you cut it back (skinned it back?). Do you think major lable record companies understand that one of the things that makes the "Feat" great is their diversity. When I put on one of your albumns and can hear a little bit of rock, a little jazz, a little blues, a little country and a whole lot of what Tipi calls the "greeze" it makes my day. I love music when you throw all kinds of music in a big pot stirrrr it up and see what pops out. Thanks again for all the years of great music. Viva la' diversity . Peace j

Years ago I was reading either Hammer of the Gods or the Zeppelin tell-all book written by Richard Trubo, I think it was called Stairway to Heaven. Anyway, Playboy magazine had announced their annual all-star band (this was sometime in the mid to late 1970s). John Bonham was totally pissed when Karen Carpenter was listed above his name. Now I have nothing against the Carpenters, but to list her as a superior drummer to Bonzo?? I don't think so. Not only Bonham, but Richie had more than earned his place on that list as well. Still, I'm guessing Mr. Payne has much more class and dignity than to allow Keyboard Magazine's oversight to rankle him in any way. He doesn't need to be anybody's Homecoming King. Bill is the finest keyboard talent of his generation. And he is second to none in his creativity and diversity. Case in point, one has just listened to the first three tracks of Kickin' it at the Barn, and suddenly, at track 4, Corozones y Sombras not only shifts gears, it takes you to another world. And it's a great song to boot! From Oh Atlanta to Mosquito Wars Bill can write, record, and perform any style of music. And he leaves us all captivated and breathless. Thank you indeed Bill! And keep the music coming. -chadgumbo

Hi Bill: It's Bob from Traverse City - what a thrill for The Corvairs to open up for you guys - your show was incredible, there are no other acts out there who can blend the old with the new as well as you guys - the transitions were outstanding, and the long long encore was the best. Send me a couple of the photos you took of West Grand Traverse Bay - and I'll shoot you a few myself. Thanks again for a truly memorable experience on July 2nd - and please visit TC again. www.thecorvairs.net

Don't know how often you look to this part of the Feat Forum, but I am writing to make a special request. Helen and I have come to understand, over the years, that some songs are harder for the band to play than others (and for lots of reasons). One song that seems to fall into that category is "Borderline Blues". We saw you and Shaun do it during the Blues Brunch in Jamaica (two years ago, now), but have never seen it again. We have moved from Santa Cruz to Portland, but are driving down for the Nov 20 ALS benefit at the Canyon Club, and can't think of a better place to break it out and do it justice (again, for lots of reasons). We will understand if it doesn't make the set list, and will enjoy whatever you do choose to play, but just thought we would give you something to think about.
See you in November

Bill, The other night I lisented to Cielo Norte on a really high end Hi-Fi system, class A amplification, tube output cd player.....Oh my god.....I couldn't believe how fine it sounded. The precussion parts sounded entirely different and quite natural. This album impresses me more every time I listen to it. Gracias mi amigo! TerryOh

Just recieved Cielo Norte in the mail. It's really a beautiful collection of original compositions, technological adaptations, and improvisations (although I would not for the life of me be able to tell where those occur.) We are enjoying it. Thank you. the other Joanne
