Bill, It's great to be able to communicate with you, great this internet age. I play keyboards and you are my greatest model for playing rock and roll piano. Your work on "Gringo" was great; the interplay between Rhodes, piano and organ was nothing less than brilliant. Also, I wish I had your instinct for where to leave the holes, your sparse but ultimately approipriate style of play should be an inspiration for keyboard players in all styles of music. Do you feel that this talent comes from playing with the same band for a long time or is it the result of something else? Of course any feedback from you would be most appreciated; after I got over the thrill of hearing from you. When my friends kid me that I couldn't play if it wasn't for Bill Payne I take it as the best compliment I can get. Thanks for years of great music jashley jashley11@hotmail.com P.S. I'm using a Yamaha S-80 in the studio, now upgraded to S-90, have you tried it, any comments? ja

Bill, Great show in Sioux Falls!
You probably have done this already, but in the off chance that you didn't...
I sent email to Robert Joyce, Executive Director, Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues Society asking about the filming and wheather or not you all could get the full show for resale. I think it has potential, but I didn't see every shot that made the jumbo tron... Perhaps you could work a deal w/SDPB to sell it as a fundraiser. Just a thought. He said that it would be up to you guys and SDPB...
Thanks for a great evening ;D

Bill, Hi. We talked briefly after your Richmond, VA show at Innsbrook Pavillion. You may recall I was "encouraging" you to move into a new direction in music, one that might get people excited about the harmonies and motiffs you know more about that anyone else in rock--and maybe you could help stave off the mind-numbing popularity of rap, etc. Ever hear a more futile effort?!! If you'd like to humor me, please listen to a song I wrote exemplifying my approach, at the following link: www.geocities.com/hypersugardude/ index.html and then click on the link "Mushroom Cloud". (It may take a minute or so to download). I'd like to try to get you interested in some of my music-direction ideas from left field (I'm a scientist by trade, which perhaps gives me a different perspective). I'd be honored to play even a small role in working with you. (P.S. Don't worry, the "hyper sugar dude" name was coined by my 12-year-old ADD son!)

I didn't know where to send this post so I put it here.
Could we have some pictures of your recently completed studio. I think it would be of great interest to the muscians here to know what kind of ezuipment you all use. On Peter Gabriel's site he has a video tour of his studio that might give you some ideas of what we would like to see, what he has done might be too expensive but we'll take what we can get.
Thanks Peace j

on the new surround sound version of KIATB there's a video bonus tour of The Barn. I think that Hank has some pictuires on featphotos.net that Chris C. took when he was out west too.
It's a great place, tucked back into a corner of Old Topanga and it's a perfect spot to put out some tunes. Even though it's out in the toolies, Richie's drumming managed to piss off some neighbors and they called the cops while they were working out KIATB.
hope that helps... Rick

....and as I recall, flowers were sent, apologies made, and when the Neighbors found out just who was making all that racket, all was right with the world!

Just wanted to thank you for sharing a little about Cielo Norte! Each piece now has a special meaning when I listen to it. I am not sure what part of the Listening Session I liked best ... I really liked the fact that Coco took the time to pay his respect, I enjoyed your openness to all questions, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness with which you addressed them. For me (and my wife), the most touching moment came when you spoke of the influence of The Giving Tree -- Shel Silverstein has been an incredible influence in our lives, and has touched every single student we have taught in the combined 51 years of our teaching.
Thanks, Bill. See you in Santa Rosa
