richie sings Gimmie A Stone on Chinese Worksongs .... and he's thankful they've taken it off the setlist rotation; it looked like it damn near killed him when he sang it, although truth be told he looks like he's expiring whenever he plays anyway.

thanks for the reply regarding Gimme a Stone. I guess I don't blame Richie for being grateful for not having to sing it live. He's perfect for the song on the CD, but to be playing drums night after night at his age, that's quite a feat (pun intended). - chad

Hayward's gonna love this one :-) I bet you get a new nickname and the next time he sees ya from his side of the lens, a choice finger selection... Hahahahahahaha

He's gonna have a freaking stroke over this one ;D Shaun, make sure to tell Richie that they're talking about how close he appears to be to a dirt nap. Hahahahahahaha...

Ooops looks like I kinda put my foot in it this time! I didn't mean that quite the way it came out. What I meant was... (how quickly can I backpedal here ) ...that I'm 46 myself and I know how sore I can be at the end of the day. And most days my job isn't anything near as physical as Richie's! Sooooo, Shaun, if you read this... please pass 2 things along to Richie. 1.) That I admire his ability, especially at the tender young of age of 50 whatever he is! and 2.) If he is ready for a dirt nap, well... you're givin him the message from the right guy cuz I'm a funeral director (God's honest truth - why else would I be up at this unholy hour if not for the fact that my services are required?). Can't wait to see you in Iowa or Minnesota - luv ya all - even if Richie does give me a choice finger : later - chadgumbo

Whew! Time sure gets away from you sometimesÉ.. Another great year for all of us is underway.
1. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO WRITE SONGS? Usually the first place is early in the morning, in a quiet place, is where I get the most done, but, I also like the ÔcrowdÕ affect, working with the guys in a room, strumming guitars to spur us along.
2. IS IT TRUE YOU COLLECT COOKBOOKS? Yes, IÕve been collecting since the late Ô60Õs, needless to say, I have over a well thousand, and counting, having moved a few times can make you re-think your choicesÉ.BTW, thanks to Emma and Weby for the contribution. 3. Thanks, Tammy, we love it that area too, with so many places on the thankfully growing map, itÕs not always possible to get back to some of our favorites every year.
4. ANY CHANCE FOR ANOTHER DVD? Nothing right now, although, are some new CDÕs coming, especially, one from Bill as a solo CD, around the top of next year.
5. Thanks Kim, I appreciate your writing to me, hope to see you out there.
6. Thanks Tipi, we always appreciate your help too!
7. MAMAD55aol.comÉ..The only bio I have together is on the website, and RickÕs been doing a great job.
8. WHO SINGS LEAD ON ÔGIMME A STONEÕ? Although Rick already answered this question, IÕm glad you brought it to our attention, as itÕs not always evident who sings what on the CDÕs, especially when thereÕs so many vocalists in this groupÉ..(Richie, by the wayÉ)
9. We had a wonderful time in Europe, and hope to get back there sooner than later, with some better tour planning, a bit too hectic to enjoy just about anything!
10. No worries, CHADGUMBO, no offence taken, RichieÕs performed it quitq a bit when the CD came out, but, as with so much material, some songs get lost in the shuffle. 10. HOW DO WE GET THE BAND TO TOUR IN NORTHERN CA? You can contact our management at: andy@deepsouthentertainment.com or our booking agency at: Monterey Peninsula Artists, Inc. 312-640-7500 att: Ron Kaplan, Gary Buck, Brodie, Becker. On the West Coast: 818-375-4889 att: Paul Goldman, or Maria

how do we get them to tour northern ca. ? Actually, touring anywhere in California would be nice, though getting to "anywhere" (wherever it might be) can be quite problematic for people familiar with the length of the state. This must be a hallmark year, though -- to go 426+ consecutive days (but who's counting) without a public performance in the state must be a first! ... signs that the band can string together a HUGE sequence of performances away from its nominal base attests to its enduring and widespread popularity. Not to mention the energy of its members. Sounds like there is a toast in there somewhere, especially since someone else actually schedules the performances. My question, Shaun, has to do with song selection. I know that the breadth of material makes it really easy to lose songs in the shuffle, but are some songs just harder to do? "Borderline Blues", in my opinion the most beautiful song in the entire catalogue, comes to mind. You and Billy sang it in Jamaica -- many many thanks, by the way -- but it just doesn't appear on set lists. Does the song present difficulties to perform, or is there another reason that we don't hear it? Thanks for any insight you can shed. Helen and I will see you out on the highway at some point (maybe in Oregon instead of California), but ... like Tipiboy ... we tend to respect your space after a show and just sort of hang around the fringes. Peace

Hi Shaun, Caught the show at the Minnesota State Fair on Saturday the 28th. Towards the end of the performance you thanked the crowd for "coming out to spend some time with us." Actually the pleasure was all ours and I'd like to return the thanks to you! When the crowd finally moved in for some dancing in front of the stage I was able to move in with my camera and am hopeful I got some nice shots. Bill surprised me with a smile and a wave when I focused on him, and I was so shocked I blew the photo-op. But caught you all at one point or another on Dixie Chicken and Feats Don't Fail Me Now. Thanks for performing "Why Don't It Look". I just love that song. Forty-Four Blues was fun to hear, and of course everything you sang was a special treat, especially "It Takes a Train". What a great blues song! Hurry back to Minnesota in '05! And thanks for a great night of music! -chadgumbo

Shaun,
I just had a second here to say hello.
Maybe some of the folks here don't know that you are a good cook too.
Any thoughts of putting out a cookbook?
Thanks, Phil.

Shaun, since you asked for some suggestions for your set with Bill in Jamaica, here's my 2 cents worth:
"borderline blues" "distant thunder" need fred on mandolin with you and billy "voices on the wind" "long distance love" "trouble"
thanks, bf bob

Hello Shaun, As long as you're asking for suggestions for the set with Bill... Mr. Payne's piano and your vocals are such a perfect bluesy blend with It Takes a Train. I won't be able to be in Jamaica, but will certainly be envious of all who can be. - monopedfeat

Shaun,
Love the questions here. First off , "Gimme a Stone" has become one of my Feat favorites on my new mini-Ipod ! (love them things). Perhaps after all the comments above, maybe you should take a stab at vocals on "Gimme a Stone". I would sure advance the womens lib movement a long way...paybacks could be hell for ole' Absalom with your pipes !
