Can I offer James Booker to our roster of piano Boogie-meisters. Nawlins-bred too, I believe! He had a rocking left hand. Could also add Big Maceo to Pinetop and Otis Spann in the Chicago tradition. And, straying North over the border, Oscar Peterson can trade licks with any of the ivory bashers named so far. Check out the live "Blues Etude" with Joe Pass and Pedersen for the fastest boogie-woogie you'll ever hear

MIke,
Thanks for reminding me of "Jammin with Edward" I have heard about this for years and I don't think I have ever actually heard it. I will have to go on an intense cd finding journey. I have to admit you have me pumped up, all these players are among my favorites. I don't know how I missed this until now but I'm going to rectify my evil ways. THANKS.
Not exactly boogie but we can't talk about piano players and not mention Bill Evans.
Peace j

guitar god Denny Freeman plays a mean piano, too. mg I did not know that, and I've seen Denny play many times, but never at Antone's. Hey, how bout the piano player in "Reefer Madness"? ;D

I don't have any of his material on CD or any other form of recorded music, but one night at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa a fellow by the name of Jason D. Williams provided a memorable performance. His music and style is reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis, genuine American piano boogie... which, if I'm not mistaken, is the name of this thread -chadgumbo

Is this the last venue that Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens played? It is one and the same I've seen many a rock show at this venue I'm proud to say. It is also where Richie Hayward was inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame! - chadgumbo

Help,
Several years ago I saw part of a Sting concert in Japan, probably at the Budokan, damn I can't spell, and he had an older black cat playing piano in addition to his regular keyboard player and I have never been able to find out this gentleman's name or find the video. He was great. Especially his left hand if I'm remembering correctly. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thank you.
Peace j

Last night's Elton John at the Red Piano on NBC made me bring this thread back up. He's been around a long time but he's still a master on that piano and can still belt out the vocals simultaneously !! And between songs he's a great entertainer and showman!! A couple of years ago on TV was a great piano-solo performance by him at the House of Blues in New Orleans which really showed how good he is,even without a band backing him up.
